Mildred "Millie" Maxine Howard

of Olathe, KS

March 6, 1934 - August 31, 2024

Mildred ''Millie'' ''Mimi'' Scott Howard, 90, of Olathe, Kansas went home to be with her lord and savior on August 31, 2024 at Evergreen Community of Johnson County. She was born on March 6, 1934 in Garner, Arkansas to Autlie P. and Flora Osborne Scott.

Although she & her husband, Buford, moved to Kansas in 2018, she always considered Arkansas home & was an avid Razorback fan.

Millie lost her hearing when she was 9 years old to Scarlet Fever, but she never let that slow her down, choosing to learn to read lips instead of signing. She traveled 45 minutes away from home to her childhood church, Garner United Methodist Church, every Sunday and was the bookkeeper for many years. Millie worked at AMF Cycle, where she met the love of her life, until she decided to start an at home day care. She loved babies so much, so she answered her calling. This is where she gained the nickname ''Mimi'', which her grandchildren, great grandchildren and all who loved her called her. Her most favorite time was when she was surrounded by her family.

Millie was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in June of 2007 and underwent a unilateral mastectomy. She was then declared Cancer Free and Pink became her signature color. Often wearing multiple pink bracelets and pins along with her pink t-shirts & fanny pack.

Millie spent her last year at Evergreen Community of Johnson County. Everyone loved her spunk and sassiness from the beginning & she brought much laughter to everyone who took care of her. A special thank you to the Staff of Evergreen Hospice, Karen, Jessica & Machelle, for your love and care for not only Millie, but for the family as we walked this journey of Dementia.

Millie is preceded in death by her husband, Buford. She is survived by her children, Brenda (Doug) Livingston, Annette (Don Jr.) Hampton and David (Dedee) Howard; Grandchildren, Lindsey (Ryan) Wolfer, Erika Simmons (Torie), Ally Richardson (Taylor), Kayla Terry (Jeremy), Zac Livingston (Genevieve), Ericka Howard & Jessica Teaster (Hunter); 5 great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Kaelyn, Irelyn, Leighton & Tatum, with another great grandson arriving next month.

Funeral Service is scheduled for Saturday, September 7th at 1:00 pm at Garner United Methodist, Garner Arkansas. All services under the direction of Roller-Daniel Funeral Home, Searcy Arkansas.

So sad to hear of Aunt Millie's passing. I loved her dearly. When Larry and I got married in 1963 we traveled to Arkansas so Larry could meet my grandma Scott and Aunt Millie. She fell in love with Larry when he helped her hand blinds on granny's windows. Millie brought so much joy everyone. Thank you Brenda for your e mail . May God bless you and your family as you put Aunt Millie to rest. Love from Larry and Doris.

So happy that I got to know Millie! I enjoyed helping her while we were at Greenwood together. I’ll never forget the time she overcooked her breakfast sandwich and the fire department came due to the smoke. She was so excited for all the fireman visitors. I told Brenda… next time let’s just have the fireman come visit and have lunch with Millie! Millie brought so many smiles around the community!

Loved her as my own mother, because they took me in as one of their own and showed me the kindness and love of the Lord
