OB Jerry Howard, 88, of the Plant Community was born on October 10, 1935 in Rylie, Texas to the late OB and Thelma (Hiser) Howard and passed from this life on August 29, 2024 at his home. He distinguished himself as a fireman in Dallas, Texas. Jerry was first in his class at the fire academy. He was also an avid farmer and accomplished artist. Jerry fell in love with the Buffalo River and ultimately moved his family to the area to enjoy Arkansas' natural beauty and outdoor activities. Jerry coached the Clinton Boxing Club for several years. He coached his son and three of his grandsons. Jerry inspired and mentored many young men in the club to have greater self confidence. Some of those he trained went on to win various boxing titles and awards in the American Boxing Association, including Golden Gloves and Silver Gloves.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Joyce Pittman, Judy Brown and one son-in-law, Michael Olive.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Rosa Lee (Delta) Howard of the home; four children, Synthia Olive, Szana Comegys (D.C.), Shawn Howard, Aaron Howard (Sara); eleven grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
Visitation will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at the Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Clinton, Arkansas. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Plant Cemetery following the service.
