Jean Oliger Collar

of Little Rock, AR

March 23, 1934 - August 29, 2024

Jean Oliger Collar, 90, of Little Rock departed this earthly life on Thursday, August 29, 2024. She was born on Woolverton Mountain in Center Ridge, Arkansas on March 23, 1934. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Collar and her daughter, Martha Collar Clark.

She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Ron and Pam Collar; her grandsons, Matt and wife, Libby Collar, Mason and wife, Hannah Collar of Little Rock and Grant and wife, Kate Clark of London, England and son in law, John Clark of Oklahoma City. She also had four great grandchildren, Cora, Silas and Mary Lou Collar and Avery Clark.

Jean was a longtime member of the Church of Christ and a devout Christian. She was a house wife, day school teacher, gardener and a pretty good cook in her day. Desserts were her specialty. She was also rumored to be a salty basketball player at Nemo Vista High School in Center Ridge where she scored 40 points in one game and couldn't hit the broadside of a barn the very next game, ''according to her''.

Visitation will begin at 6:00pm Monday, September 9, 2024 followed by the funeral service at 7:00pm in the Chapel of Roller-Drummond Funeral Home, 10900 I-30, Little Rock, Arkansas 72209.

The Bryson family is sorry for your loss. We enjoyed talking with Mrs. Jean when visited our daughter, Molly, that lives across the street. Mrs. Jean was always busy doing something. She was such an active lady and so kind to us.

RIP to a beautiful aunt. Aunt Jean was my favorite Aunt. One Christmas when I
still believed in Santa Claus she told me Santa had put the peanut brittle in my
stocking. I finally realized this candy came from what we made the night before.
She was a teenager and I was a little kid. I didn't figure this out until
several years later. I reminded her every year for years. Her presents got better.
I liked to remind her that she told me a fib.

Dear Collar and Clark family,
Condolences to you in the passing of your strong, tenacious, independent matriarch, Jean.
I met her back in my college days as a friend of Martha’s. Martha invited me on some of her weekend treks home to Little Rock for a mini hiatus from Harding’s campus. Jean was always welcoming and a true southern hostess. Her cooking and baking were off the charts delicious and a welcome treat from campus cuisine.
A favorite memory many years later; meeting Jean and Martha in Chicago. I invited my stepsister who was close to Jean’s age. We took Chicago by the storm with shopping, dining, and sightseeing. We were in the Windy City, after all.
I did not realize Jean was a basketball star in high school! This basketball-loving gal from Indiana loves to learn that about Jean all these years later.
Now joining Richard and Martha, rest in peace, Jean. With love, Jill

My family attended church with the Collar family. Her son Ron and I became close friends by the time we got to Little Rock Central High School. I spent a lot of time in the Collar house. Jean always kept us boys in line, especially our friend Fast Eddie Bowman.
Jean was a strong Christian woman and was an example to us growing up.
Thank you for all the memories.
I pray for Ron and Pam for strength and comfort in the days to come.

With love,

Stan and Pitty Turney

Jean and I became friends in 1977 at CARTI. We both were cancer patients at that time. We remained friends doing the Race for the Cure for years together. I will always treasure her friendship. Prayers for comfort for the family.

“Across the street” neighbors with Jean and Richard for years. She was right there when we brought our newborn home from the hospital; then fellow members of Pleasant Valley Church for years. Jean and her extended family have been such a blessing to us and so many others. God Bless, dear lady!

Aunt Jean was my favorite aunt. Many fond memories of her & uncle Richard. Unfortunately, we just missed seeing her one last time. We came back to AR for my brother Onis passing on the 31st of August. Wish we could stay for the service but must go home on 2nd of September. Love to all her family & friends.

I first met Jean at the 6th & Izard Daycare. She was one of my kids teacher. I found her to be a very and gentle person. Over the years we worshipped together at the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ and then as one of her elders at the Pinnacle Church of Christ. Jean was faithful in her attendance up until the decline in her health and ultimate death. My prayers and condolences for the family. May you be strengthened and comforted as you reflect upon the fond memories.

My neighbor and swimming partner for years. My puppy always stops in front of her home. We will miss her so much! More than words can express! Loved stringing greenbeans with her! Condolences to all!
