Charles J. Wilson, 87, of Conway, Arkansas went to be with the Lord August 16, 2024.
He was born December 27, 1936 in Sulphur Springs, Texas to Charley D. Wilson and Alma May Self Truxell.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife of many years, Julia Dianne Smart Wilson; parents; two sisters, Joyce Lou Wilson Heckard and Patsy Wilson Adams and one brother, Donald R. Wilson.
Charles proudly served in the United States Navy from October 29, 1956 to October 28, 1962 on the USS Philip DDE-498. After leaving the Navy, he worked 28 years in Retail Management until he retired in 1999. He loved managing rental property and spending many years on his farm raising registered Black Angus cattle and registered Arabian horses. He also loved spending time at the lake with his family and gardening.
He is a member of Central Baptist Church in Conway, Arkansas. He loved his church and bible study class. He was a Godly man who leaves behind a legacy with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many other lives he touched over the years.
Charles is survived by one daughter, Julia Monica Wilson Johnson (Jerry) of Vilonia, Arkansas and one son, Charles Allan Wilson (Marcy) of Sherwood, Arkansas; one sister, Susan Kay Wilson Sears; two grandchildren, Matthew David Wilson (Allora) and Charles Andrew Wilson (Sarah) and seven great-grandchildren, Willow Sage Wilson, Aiden Charles Wilson, Emilia Ember Wilson, Kelsey Marie Wilson, Shelby Ann Wilson, Charlie Michael Wilson, Audrey Grace Wilson and many other precious family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery in North Little Rock. Honors will be provided by the US Navy.

Charles, Allen, and Monica, I just heard about Charles's passing. I'm so sorry for your loss, and I know your hearts are breaking. He was truly a wonderful man and I'm sure he's with Jesus now.

Monica: Charles would probably have told me, "That's the second time you've lost a memorial statement by minimizing to go get some water, then had to start over."
"Charlie" was the one I called the "pew master." If anyone who normally sat in seats around him was late or not present, he would be asking about them. I almost expected him to pull out a name roster and start check-marking. Attending church seemed the highlight of each his weeks as long as he was able. It was always nice to see him enjoying handshakes with long-time friends in the church. He didn't sing along on hymns much, but did a good job of of tapping his fingers.
Monica, he was so proud of you, your kindnesses and your accomplishments, and gladly welcomed Jerry into the family. He knew you had chosen well. I know he was grateful for the dinners out, time, and attention you both provided for him.
Charlie's "absence" (check-mark!) will be regretted by us all, of course, but he had an appointment he wouldn't have wanted to miss. In that blink of an eye, he was in the presence of Jesus who invited him to come in and "set a spell." I hope Jesus gets a word in edge-wise.
Thank you for your love and care. When you both get to heaven, you can pick up your star-studded crowns at the front desk.

I had the pleasure to drive Mr. Charles to church on Sunday mornings. We would joke around and we gave each other a hard time. He loved to tell stories even if they were the same ones that he had told before. I am sorry for your loss and I hope and pray for you to find comfort in this difficult time.
