Melvin Gage, 73, of Cord passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
He was born March 1, 1951 in DesArc, Arkansas to Cecil Brooks Gage and Lorene (Voiles) Gage.
Melvin was a member of Cord Baptist Church. He was a generous, hardworking man with a good sense of humor. He was a truck driver most of his life. Melvin worked for Jerry Hayes Trucking for 20 years and drove for Walmart Transportation out of Searcy, Arkansas for 25 years He was proud of having driven over 2 million safe miles. He also loved his family very much, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon (Williams) Gage; three sons, Wesley Gage (Heather) of Cord, James Gage of Cord, Casey Cox (Mary) of Batesville; one daughter, Pam Heigle (Rodney) of Batesville; one brother, Ronald Gage (Gloria) of Santa Rosa, New Mexico; two sisters, Jeanette Lovell (David) of Cave City, Barbara Kennedy (Phillip) of Little Rock; twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers are Don Grills, Derek McKuin, Charley Clinton, Randy Williams, Donnie England and Joey Bray. Honorary pallbearers are Randy Estes, Melvin Smith, David Lovell and David Grimes.
Graveside services will be held Monday, August 5, 2024 at 10:00am at Hopewell Cemetery in Cord with Jeff Childers officiating.
A celebration of life will be held Monday at 11:00am at the Cord Baptist Church.

Sharon, I am so sorry to hear about Melvin. My son Dennis Sartin let me know tonight, Sunday, about it. We know he is in a better place but it sure will not help the empty place in your hearts. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family,may God give you comfort and peace during the hard days ahead. In case you don't remember me we met at Norris Grills funeral, and Melvin and I were talking about he had covid the same time my husband , Larry Sartin had it in Jan. of 2021 and Melvin pulled through it and my husband didn't make it.
You will be sorely missed. Thank you for being an amazing person and letting us be a part of your work family. Will and I will miss you tons.

I worked with Melvin for over 24 years at Wal-Mart. He was a true friend. We have had lots of funny conversations and serious ones too over the years. I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with all his family.
I was always fond of Melvin. Between him and Ronald you were in tears from laughing. Prayers for the family.
Spent my childhood growing up across the street and lot of time at the Gage's, alway enjoyed being around Melvin .

Melvin was one of a kind. I got some good stories that I laugh everytime I think about them I'm filled with joy. Melvin was a true friend to many and you knew if he was your friend. The last time I saw him was at the truckstop in Ozark Ar. He came over and visited with my wife and I.
Jeanette, Pam, Wesley, & Barbara, I am saddened to hear of the loss of your Dad and brother. It’s been a very long time since I’ve seen Melvin. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Melvin was always so full of life and laughs. He always kept Jason & Jody on their toes when he was around them in our Magness/Newark days My sincere condolences to all the family while you grieve the loss of this great man.

What an honor it was to know and work with Melvin. You just never knew what Melvin was going to say but whatever it was, it was going to be funny. Melvin loved his family beyond compare. He had the biggest heart and the kindest soul and always seemed to actually care about the people he worked with. He was one of a kind and will be greatly missed. RIP friend. There will never be another like you.
I'm deeply sadden to hear the news of his passing. I will be praying for the family and anyone that had the opportunity to meet him. He always had a smile on his face. He will be greatly missed. He would tell me that I must be kin to him because I was just as crazy as him. I loved seeing him.
Melvin made us laugh, smile and most of all feel special. What a joy to know him. Heaven is even a better place since he arrived! Our hearts are sad for Sharon and their precious loved ones. Our love and prayers for you all.

Barbara and Jeanette I am so sorry for y’all’s loss. There is an emptiness that will never be filled. You’re in my thoughts and prayers. I remember being at y’all’s house in Des Arc and Melvin stoles my shoes and acted liked he was not going to give them back to me. Barbara you was right there with him on this.

Papaw Melvin always treated me like one of his own grandchildren, and I am proud to have known him and spent many Christmas celebrations hearing his contagious laugh and silly jokes. He’s the orneriest man I’ve ever met and had a heart of pure gold. I’m sure he’s up there in heaven now making Jesus laugh! Sending all our love and prayers for comfort during this difficult time.
Melvin was a wonderful man that love his family so much. He will definitely be missed by all who were blessed to know him. We sure loved him. Prayers for all of you now & the days to come.

Melvin was one of the nicest, funniest man ever. When I used to cut his jar, I always enjoyed our conversations. No matter where I would run into him at he always had a great big smile, sometimes kind to say and something funny to tell Terry later.
