Sue Batson, 91, of Greenbrier ran into the arms of Jesus, Thursday, July 18th, 2024.She was born December 3rd, 1932 in Greenbrier to the late Oliver and Jewell Brannan. She is preceded in the death by the love of her life and husband of 63 years, Bill Batson; granddaughter, Kristi Tilley; son-in-law, Jeremy Brown and brother, Donald Brannan.
She is survived by three daughters, Kathy Newland (Danny) of Dennard; Karen Newland (Randy) of Greenbrier; Lisa Batson Brown of Conway; grandchildren, Heather Newland Hollis; Josh Newland (Rachel); Lacey Standridge (Jared); Will Newland (Ashley); Wes Newland (Randi); Abby Andrews; Audrey Cone (Tyler); Jaxon Brown; sixteen great grandchildren, Alex, Ace & Bodie Newland; Sam, Sydney & Shelby Standridge; Dixie, Daysie & Ike Newland; Lathan, Finley & Weston Newland; Cayde & Cambry Andrews; Ellen & Norah Cone and a host of other family and friends.
Sue was a lifelong resident of Greenbrier and an active faithful charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Greenbrier. Sue loved playing the piano and singing. As a teenager she and her classmates would go to Conway and sing on the radio for a church service. She was the Children's Choir director for church and Bible School, played the organ, piano and sang in the choir. She enjoyed seeing Broadway musicals with her church friends. She loved all kinds of sports. She and her husband, Bill, attended the Greenbrier football, basketball, baseball and softball games for years. Then they followed their grandchildren and great-grandchildren all over the state watching them play sports. Sue received her BSE from Arkansas State Teacher's College and her MSE from UCA. She was a teacher for 25 years and loved her students and they loved her. Her cooking was legendary, especially Sunday lunches after church for her entire large family. She loved her family and people in general. She loved being called Nanny or Nanny Sue by all of her many grandchildren and their friends. She will be remembered as a godly woman who was a shining light for Jesus. Her smile, that sparkle in her eyes and positive attitude lit up any room. She took a genuine interest in people and made everyone feel special and appreciated. She has left a legacy of integrity, compassion for others and generosity to her family and community.
Visitation will be Monday, July 22nd at 5:00pm at Immanuel Baptist Church in Greenbrier. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 23rd at 10:00am also at Immanuel Baptist Church in Greenbrier with Dr. Billy D. Crow officiating. Pallbearers will be Josh Newland, Will Newland, Wes Newland, Jared Standridge, Tyler Cone, Lathan Newland, Jaxon Brown, Sam Standridge, Ace Newland, Cayde Andrews, Bodie Newland, Weston Newland & Ike Newland. Burial will be at Needs Creek Cemetery near Springhill. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund. Special thanks goes to everyone at Magnolia Landing and Gentvia Hospice nurses who loved and cared for her during her final days.

We were so sorry to hear the news of ‘Nanny’s’ passing. I did not personally know Nanny until we got to know her during the years of sporting events, while at Greenbrier. We were always so happy (especially Isabella) when she showed up to an event - she could brighten a room/arena like nobody else. She was always smiling, encouraging and loving, to Isabella. And always elegant, always beautiful, always gracious to all of us. I know this will be such an adjustment for all of you…prayers for her wonderful family and close friends during this time and days to come.

So sorry to hear of Ms. Sue's passing. Heaven just received a wonderful lady that will be singing in the Heavenly Choir. She was a dear lady & friend to so many people and I know the family will missed her. Dear Sweet Family and Friends, I’m so sorry for your loss and heartbreak. Ms. Sue always adored her family and all children that she taught and all that knew her. Greenbrier’s icon!! Such a great lady now gone to her eternal home to be With Jesus and her beloved husband, Mr. Bill. To all of her family, my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Sue has been a blessing to us my whole life. We’ve played, sang, prayed, watched lots of sports, & attended many joyous family reunions & funerals. We know there was a great welcome when Sue ran through those Pearly Gates. We are thankful for each sweet memory. Praise God for our cousins!

We’ve spent so many years together & been so close for so long .. from your Christmas baby doll in 1941 — that caused me to laugh out loud! We’ve shared much love; I’m going to miss our phone conversations about recipes & family & Razorbacks. I love our years & memories will keep you near!
