H. Carvill Fitzhugh, Jr., 87, passed away on July 8, 2024 at his home in Harrison, AR. He was born on March 16, 1937 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to H. Carvill and Evelyn Fitzhugh.
Carvill was a Certified Public Accountant, operating his own business in Helena for over fifty years.
Carvill was a long-time member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Helena and served for many years on the vestry and as church treasurer. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club and served on the DeSoto School Board as treasurer for several years.
Carvill was a great lover of animals, especially his current fur baby, Kelli. He loved football (Razorbacks), baseball (St. Louis Cardinals) and fishing. He also participated in track and at one time held the State of Mississippi record for almost 20 years. Never without his fragrant pipe, Carvill loved to meet with his best friend, Bill Evans for coffee and general topics of the day. He loved history, especially Colonial America, and good books and music. He always loved western movies and TV shows, especially Gene Autry, whose hand he shook as a child.
Carvill was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Carol, Brother David, and his great-granddaughter, Alexis Renee Abel. He leaves his beloved companion of thirty years, Karen Lavender of Harrison, Arkansas; his daughters, Cynthia Abel (Robert), Jennifer Smith (Robert) and son Bill Fitzhugh, all of Jonesboro, Arkansas; two grandsons, David Abel and Caleb Smith; three grand-daughters Rachel Abel, Shelby Abel and Camryn Smith. Carvill also leaves six great-grandchildren and his sister Anne Reintges of North Carolina.
Special thanks to Dr. Geoffrey Dunaway and staff. The family would also like to thank Hospice of the Hills in Harrison, Arkansas.
Services will be held at Roller Citizens Funeral Home, 508 E. Plaza Street in West Helena, Arkansas. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery, Helena. Allison Biderman of St. Johns Episcopal Church will speak at the service. Pallbearers to be announced. Carvill requested that his defibrillator/pacemaker be donated to the local veterinary hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made either to St. John's Episcopal Church or to your local humane society.

I wanted to be there today in honor of a great man.
When I younger and we did our family reunions one thing was constant. And a vivid memory.

Rest in peace grandpa. I am so glad that as an adult I was able to know you and most of all you got to meet my wife and your great granddaughter.
I will forever miss your “hey Hunter!” Greeting on the phone, the shaving cream beard monster from my childhood that our daughter will hear about over and over as she gets older, and most of all I will always remember how you said I reminded you of Pecos Bill.
You are dearly missed and while I cherish the small amounts of time we have had together in this life I can only wish I had a little longer.
You were and still are a great man, a loving partner, and great grandpa. From Me, Diana, and little Stella beans, we love and miss you and I hope there is a pipe waiting and all your favorite western actors there to greet you at the pearly gates.

Carvill was not just a friend, and neighbor to the Herlein family, he was also the bookkeeper for Helena Electric Co., for many, many years. He was an exemplary accountant, and a good man, and friend. Sending prayers for comfort and peace to his family, and to his dear, Karen.
