James ''Jim'' George Limbird, 72, passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on June 13, 2024 in Little Rock, Arkansas after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

He is survived by his wife, Amanda ''Mandy'' Limbird; his son, Nick Limbird (Tara) of Rogers, AR & his two daughters, Anna Limbird Olive (Jeff) of Alexander, AR & daughter, Kate Limbird of Little Rock, AR. He is also survived by his two grandsons, Chase & Tripp Olive & one granddaughter, Ellie Limbird; Two brothers, Bob Limbird (Connie) of Clarksville, AR & Mark Limbird (Karen) of Scranton, AR; sisters in law, Bonnie Limbird & Molly McDonough Cooper (Stan, dec.); nephew, Stanley E. Cooper, III (Tina) & niece, Eleanor (Cooper) Haliburton of Louisiana, as well as a host of other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Linda Limbird Fiddler and brother, Mike Limbird .

Jim was born August 4, 1951 to Frank and Catherine ''Katy'' Connaughton Limbird in Paris, AR. The youngest of four brothers, he developed his grit and ''can-do'' attitude having survived being their guinea pig for many experiments and hair-brained schemes. Jim worked summers to afford his tuition at his high school alma mater, Subiaco Academy, a place and space in time he held very dear and with much pride. Here he made many memories, numerous lifelong friendships, and earned five consecutive Golden Gloves of Arkansas titles. His high school annual describes him ''right hand like a sledgehammer, head like a brick'', but friends and family knew him as a gentle and kind soul and a joyful optimist with a servant's heart.

After graduating from the University of Arkansas, Jim returned to Subiaco where he coached football and was named Man of the Year by the students. He moved to Little Rock where he worked as a social worker for the Arkansas Division of Youth Services and a drug and alcohol counselor at the Restore Unit. Later, he became the director of marketing for Southwest Hospital before eventually working for himself for many years.

Jim was devoted to his faith and was a member of the Our Lady of the Holy Souls Catholic Church. He loved to read and began every morning reading his bible. He was an Oblate Novice of St. Benedict of Subiaco Abbey, a member of the Men's Club and a fourth degree Knights of Columbus, Council 812. Through the years, he enjoyed mentoring, coaching youth softball and basketball and refereeing and judging silver and golden gloves boxing matches. He always believed it was important to use the sport to develop the child and not the other way around.

Jim loved tinkering in his shed, working in the yard or with his brothers on the farm, tending to his bees and closing the day with a cold beer. He looked forward to winters at the duck club in Slovak with his Subiaco buddies, where the tales were tall and the libations numerous. He was immensely proud of his family. Nothing brought him greater fulfillment and joy than being a husband and father and spending time with his grandchildren.

Jim will be fondly remembered for his playful nature, his always sunny disposition, his words of encouragement, his compassion for others and his devotion to Jesus. He will be greatly missed by all who had the honor to know him, may he rest in peace.

A rosary will be held Wednesday, June 19th at 6:30pm at Holy Souls Church. The funeral service will be Thursday, June 20th at 10am at Holy Souls Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Subiaco Academy or the Arkansas Alzheimer's Association.
