of Holliday, MO
September 22, 1940 - June 6, 2024
John Andrew ''Cotton'' Treece, 84, of Holliday, Missouri was born on September 22, 1940 in Clinton, Arkansas to the late Doyle and Hazel (Huggins) Treece and passed from this life on June 6, 2024 in St. Elizabeth, Missouri. He was given the nickname ''Cotton'' as a child because of his white hair. The name stuck with him for his entire life. Most of his friends only knew him by ''Cotton''. Later in life he found great peace and satisfaction attending Grace Baptist Church in Moberly, Missouri. There, Cotton learned a great deal about the Bible and became great friends with the pastor whom he lovingly referred to as Pastor Jim.
Cotton began his career as a heavy equipment operator in the construction field. In 1977 he put those skills to work for the Nemo Coal Mine in Thomashill, Missouri and worked there until his retirement in 1996. He loved to work in his garden and rarely was a weed ever seen in it. When his wife, Willie, passed away, Cotton took over all the canning for his friends and family to enjoy.
He took great care and pride in those things that he worked hard for. Cotton loved to fish and made sure everyone's boots were clean when they boarded his boat. Also, he didn't want any fish thrown in the bottom of his boat. That was what the live well was for. Cotton loved to tease and joke around. He always enjoyed a good laugh with his family or friends.
Cotton is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Willie Treece; two brothers, Thurman Treece, Jim Treece and two sisters, Alfay Treece and Nina Padgett.
Left to cherish his memory are two sons, Phillip Treece (Dody) of Stephenville, Texas, Mark Treece (Brenda) of Lincoln, Missouri; one grandson, Colton Treece of Stephenville, Texas; two brothers, Garner Treece of Mt. View, Arkansas, Dewayne Treece of Choctaw, Arkansas; one sister, Ganell Treece; other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at the Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Clinton, Arkansas. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Fairbanks Cemetery where Cotton will be laid to rest by his beloved Willie.
