of Greenbrier, AR
March 8, 1937 - May 14, 2024
Richard Stephen (Dick) Russ, Jr. left his earthly family to join his heavenly family on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. The oldest of four children, Dick was born on March 8, 1937 in Denver, Colorado to the late Richard and Margaret Russ, Sr. He is also preceded in death by his brother, George Russ and his precious granddaughters, Amy and Emile Bright. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Peggy Ann Russ; daughters, Jeanne Love (Ray), Teri McMoran, Stephanie Brown (Scott), Cindy Hartman (Kevin); grandchildren, Michael McMoran (Kelly), Aaron McMoran (Cortney), Ethan McMoran (Krissy), Kobie McKnight (Cody), Katie Hull (Jackson), Cayden Hartman, Kayleigh Brown, Terry Love (Tammy), Shelley Love; great-grandchildren, Anna Marie Love, Clarke, Hazel, Joan and Baker McMoran; brother, Kent Russ (Susan); sister, Kathy Johnson (Bob); sister-in-law, Jeri Rowe; brother-in-law, J.E. Rowe; many nieces, nephews, cousins and family friends.
During his early teenage years, Dick moved to Benton, Arkansas where he played football, basketball and ran track for the Benton Panthers. His senior year, he joined the Navy Reserves. After graduating from Benton High School, he attended Henderson State University where he met Peggy and married her as quickly as he could! A few years later, Dick graduated from UALR's first graduating class with a BA in Business. He managed Goodyear stores for several years before deciding to open up his own business with L.G. Reynolds-Russ and Reynolds Furniture in Conway, Arkansas. Eventually the two chose to have their own stores and Dick's locations became Russ Furniture of Conway and Morrilton. During this time, Dick was an outstanding member of the Arkansas Furniture Association and won several awards for his commitment to excellence in furniture sales. Dick joined the Conway Noon Optimist Club when he moved to Conway and helped start the Optimist Pee Wee Football program in Conway. He was a member of Springhill Baptist Church.
Dick devoted his life to his family, making sure his children and grandchildren had a great life. He and Peggy spent many hours attending whatever academic, sport or recreational event his children and grandchildren were involved in throughout the years. He loved chaperoning Young Life and church youth group ski trips where he enjoyed teaching teenagers and adults how to snow ski. But more than anything you would catch Dick on the lake fishing any time of the day. Fishing has always been a passion of his but especially when he gave up golf. Dick always found time for a good fishing spot. Along with fishing, came camping with his camping buddies. He and Peggy traveled all over the U.S. with this wonderful group of camping friends. Dick also looked forward to his extended family's Russ Reunion every two years. Spending a week with his relatives from all over the country thrilled his heart.
A very special thanks goes to the staff of Davita Dialysis, Salem Nursing and Rehabilitation, Baptist Health Hospital and Gentiva Hospice for their loving care and support of Dick and his family.
The Celebration of Life will be Tuesday, May 21st at Springhill Baptist Church in Greenbrier. Visitation is 12:30-2pm with the service from 2-3pm. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Michael McMoran, Aaron McMoran, Ethan McMoran, Cayden Hartman, Cody Mcknight and Jackson Hull.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to send memorials to:

I worked at Russ Furniture while attending UCA back in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Owe a lot to the Russ Family. He was a great guy. My condolences Peggy.
Hugs and prayers to you all. Lots of good memories back in the YoungLife days..
Dick was a great man and will be missed by everyone that knew him. I was privileged to work with Dick and his brother George at Havertys Furniture in the 90’s. My favorite thing about Dick was being able to fish with him in the early mornings and making it to work later that day. I always enjoyed getting phone calls from him later in life. Fish on my friend.
My sincere condolences are with you all at this time. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
