Joe F. Overstreet, 88, of Fordyce Arkansas, went home to be with Jesus on May 8, 2024. He went peacefully while at home surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Fordyce, Arkansas on January 19, 1936 to Frank and Mildred (Blankenship) Overstreet.

Joe joined the police force in 1959 as Fordyce City Policeman. He was honored to accept his dream job with the Arkansas State Police in 1962. He loved wearing the uniform of The Arkansas State Police and serving the state of Arkansas for 25 years.

He is survived by one daughter, Teresa Thompson of Newport AR; four grandchildren, Anthony Carter (Bethany) of Mountain View, who dedicated his life to care for Joe, Austin Carter of Newport, AR, Shanna Carter of Bay, Damon Smart and one great-grandchild, Isaac Smart.

Joe loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his four-wheeler and scooter, sitting outside and spending time with family and friends. He had many special friends who meant the world to him. He enjoyed sitting and talking with friends and family about old times. He had many great stories to tell and if you were ever around him, you have surely heard at least one!

Joe is preceded in death by his wife, Martha Overstreet; one son, Carl Carter and his parents, Frank and Mildred (Blankenship) Overstreet.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 from 6:00-8:00PM at Roller Crouch Funeral Home in Mountain View, Arkansas.

When I was a very young trooper, the late Cpl Gary Gray and I were stationed in Woodruff County. For a period of about one year, Woodruff County was moved into Troop B, and Joe became our post sergeant. We always looked forward to his visits, and enjoyed being around him. He was a fine man, and for the rest of my 36+ year career and afterwards, I always looked forward to seeing Joe. As a young trooper, every time he saw me, he'd say, "boy, you need a haircut." I'd tell him I just got one, and he'd say, with a big grin, "Well, I'm glad I didn't see it before you had it cut. I'm hungry. Let's go eat." That was always his greeting to me even after we were both long retired. He'd look me up and down, grin that sly grin, and tell me I still needed a haircut. He taught me a lot about how to treat people, and I thought the world of him. RIP, my friend.

All of the family are in my thoughts and prayers. Joe was a good man. I worked with him as Batesville city attorney and later district prosecutor. That whole group of troopers will always be special to me. Always a joy to visit with. He will be missed.

Joe was my dad's sergeant in the Arkansas State Police when I was a kid. My dad thought a lot of him, so we asked Joe to be an honorary pallbearer at his funeral back in 2020. That was the last time I saw and talked to him. I remember him from childhood being a very sweet man and most importantly a man my dad respected. Rest In Peace.

We were so sorry to hear of his passing, but so happy for Joe. His prayers were answered for Jesus to come take him home. He was always fun to be around. Our friendship goes back for many years. He was a blessing to be around him every time and we enjoyed going to church together for several years. He will be missed by all that knew him. Sending our love and prayers
