Lawd, the stories I could tell! Can’t remember a time in my coming-out years that didn’t have you in it. You helped me see my journalistic dream come true in Family & Friends magazine. I’ve missed you during the years I’ve been away from Memphis. Now I will miss you always. Love to you and prayers for Carol and those close to you. Go rest high, you deserve it!

Sharon gave me her last name and made me a part of the Memphis Gay community. She made me President of a Leather club because one day at her kitchen table I told her it was my dream that would never come true but she made it happen. As for the leather community no one ever knew my last name was Johnson. Thanks to her I will always be Donnie Wray. I will miss and cherish the woman who I loved and made memories to last me a life time.. Thank you for giving me a massive family and community..
YOUR Donnie Wray

Sharon, you built a community that I was lucky enough to find, meeting incredible people, forming my own second family, and discovering I belonged in this world. You held us together when we lost many cherished friends. You kept us dancing, laughing, and loving one another.

This is a great loss to the Memphis and MidSouth Community but certainly the memory of Sharon and the great accomplishments she made, will live on. She provided a safe place for many to gather, especially in a time when the safe places were few and far between. She was bold enough to provide the safe places for those who had no where else to go or turn to. She was not afraid to provide for her community including fundraisers or providing venues for fundraisers, for all walks of life. While, at times, the world may not have unconditionally loved her back, she did not let that stop her from making a difference in this community. The world is a much better place for the "alternative" life style, that was many years ago when she thrived as a business owner. I have to believe that much of the change, was in part due to Sharon's efforts to foster community, unconditional love and acceptance. May you rest in peace! Thank you for leading by example.
