Peggy Gail Trammell

of Timbo, AR

November 20, 1950 - April 20, 2024

Peggy Gail Trammell, 73, went to be with the Lord while surrounded by her family on Saturday night, April 20, 2024. She was born November 20, 1950 to James O. Looney, Jr. and Grace Looney in Batesville, Arkansas.

Peggy was of the Baptist faith and a member of Big Springs Baptist Church. She was a Christian and loved the Lord dearly.

Peggy's greatest joy in life was her family. She married Hugh Boyd Trammell on May 1, 1970 and together they raised five children, Rick, Stan, Travis, Tara and Layne. Her main focus in life was being the best mother she could be and always putting her children first. Later, her main focus in life became her grandchildren, Brenton, Tanner, McKenna and Tenley. She devoted her time to being involved in all of their sports and activities. She was the best Nana to her grandchildren and put them above all.

Hugh and Peggy owned and operated 'Timbo Trading Post' from 1974 until 1979 when Peggy was elected as the Stone County Treasurer where she served two terms. In 1983, she became a homemaker to be at home with her children. In 1991, she took a job at Timbo School as a secretary. She worked there for six years until her life suddenly changed and she had to quit to take care of her husband. She was a devoted & caring wife and stood by her husband's side for almost 5 years throughout his illness. After his passing, she stayed home to help with her grandchildren. Later, she decided to return to work. She was the Deputy County Clerk in Mountain View for several years. After that, she worked at the Stone County Sheriff's Department for Sheriff Lance Bonds as his Administrative Secretary. Then, she worked at the Stone County Collector's Office until 2021 when she decided to retire. In 2023, she made the choice to return to work at the Sheriff's Department for Sheriff Brandon Long. She worked there until her passing. She was a devoted worker and took all of her jobs to heart. She truly loved them all.

Peggy also enjoyed talking on the phone, Facebook, walking, mowing, sewing and knitting. She was an amazing seamstress. She was a member of T.O.P.S. where she loved going every Thursday evening but mostly loved the ladies she met with each week. She was an amazing friend to all who knew her.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Trammell; her father, Junior Looney; her mother, Grace Looney; two brothers, Tommy Looney and George Looney; stepson, Ricky B. Trammell and granddaughter, Ashlyn Grace Trammell. She is survived by her children, Travis and Teena Trammell; Tara Trammell; Layne and Dan Knapp and Stan Trammell; her grandchildren, Brenton and McKenna Knapp; Tanner and Tenley Trammell; Heather Trammell, Stephanie Thomas & Shane Trammell; her brothers, Jim and Karen Looney, Douglas Looney & Dwight Looney. As well as, many other family members and dear friends.

Pallbearers are Brandon Long, Lance Bonds, Brenton Knapp, Tanner Trammell, Braden Looney, Joe Don Looney and Jimmy Dean Looney.

Honorary Pallbearers are the staff at Stone County Sheriff's Office.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 23, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Timbo Valley Assembly of God Church in Timbo, Arkansas.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Timbo Valley Assembly of God Church in Timbo, Arkansas with Brothers Junior Barham and David Campbell officiating.

Peggy was one of my very best friends, since early 1970s! She was the friend that helped me back in the past, during a time when I did not have the resources to help myself. She help to kick start my career and I was able to go on and retired from a federal service job. Not long ago, I talked to Peggy to remind her of just how wonderful she was back then to help me and it made all the difference in the world. I reminded her that she paid for my driver's license and she hired me on my first job. With her help, I was able to gain the knowledge I needed to have a successful career. It was more than just that though. She helped my mother when she owned the grocery store. My mother loved her and would say, "I love to hear Peggy laugh." One fun story, when Peggy was running for Stone County Treasurer, my mother was talking to Peggy, and she said, "Well, Peggy I went and filled out that ballot today. My mother said, it said to mark the X....opposite, the name you wish to vote for, so I marked it! Peggy, laughed really loud and she said, "Well, Thelma if you voted opposite of the name, you voted for the other person!" I can still hear Mother & Peggy laughing about that! Love you Peggy, my dear friend that I will never forget! God looks very favorable on you today.

I enjoyed sharing stories with Peggy and I always looked forward to hearing the stories about my ancestors throughout the years. My heart breaks for my family. She’s with Jesus and her family that has already gone to be with Jesus Christ. Next time I’m down in Stone County, I’d love to hear from everyone who loved her and hear all the stories about her since I’ve moved ( funny stories galore I’m sure). My Parents Larry and Brenda Green have been sad since they heard the news but my Dad said, she was such an amazing woman and we are going to miss her dearly. We love you so incredibly much.

She was such an amazing person and was beyond blessed to have her in my life as my first Mother figure. Our bond started when I was seven and was hurt on the playground at school. She doctored my back and held me all recess the rest of the day. After that I had to see her every day. She will always be the world to me. I love you Peggy.
