of Searcy, AR
August 16, 1937 - March 29, 2024
Jerrie Adele Tharp (Mitchell), 86, a dedicated Christian, was born on August 16,1937 in Monroe County, Arkansas to Chleo Mitchell and Gladys Mae Mitchell. She passed peacefully and quietly into the eternal embrace of our Lord on March 29, 2024 in Searcy, Arkansas.
Jerrie was one of seven children and her childhood was spent in the hills of Pangburn, Arkansas. From a young age, she was close to her siblings and this remained true throughout their lives. Some of her favorite times were spent shopping or traveling with her sisters or visiting with her brothers.
Jerrie attended school in Pangburn from kindergarten through high school, graduating in 1955 from Pangburn High School. It was at Pangburn High School where Jerrie met Tommy Tharp whom she married on June 10, 1955. Tommy was the love of her life and she was the love of his. They remained married until Tommy's death on March 28, 2014, almost exactly ten years before Jerrie entered eternity to be reunited with him.
Together with Tommy, she spent much of their life together farming in the Hickory Flat area of Pangburn, Arkansas. Together, Jerrie and Tommy Tharp had one daughter, Paula Davis (Tharp) whom they raised in Pangburn, Arkansas. Once Paula started high school, Jerrie began her career in healthcare working for several prominent doctors, including Drs. Rogers, Simpson and Blue. She retired in the mid-nighties and spent the rest of her life enjoying time with her family and serving in her church.
On May 23, 1975, Jerrie and Tommy Tharp's daughter, Paula, married Gene Davis. Paula and Gene Davis had one son, Jerit Davis and Jerit Davis had one child, Allison Davis. Some of the most important things to Jerrie were her daughter, grandson and great granddaughter. She also adored her son-in-law, Gene and granddaughter in law, Haylee.
Jerrie was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy J. Tharp; her parents, Chleo Mitchell and Gladys Mae Mitchell; her brothers, Roger Mitchell and Nick Mitchell and two sisters, Carolyn VanWinkle and Joan Feagins.
She is survived by her daughter, Paula Davis and her husband, Gene Davis (Searcy, Arkansas); her grandson, Jerit Davis and his wife, Haylee Davis; her great-granddaughter, Allison Davis (Dallas, Texas); her sister, Joyce Quattlebaum (Searcy, Arkansas) and her brother, Jim Mitchell (Indianapolis, Indiana).
Jerrie will be remembered by her family for her dedication to family as well as the graceful and peaceful spirit she always embodied. As we release her to our Lord, we hold the 91st Psalm close to our hearts and we take comfort in knowing she is eternally at peace.
The family is thankful for flowers for Jerrie's graveside, but if you would rather make a donation in her honor, the family requests for those donations to be made to the Care Team of First Assembly of God Church in Searcy, Arkansas.
Jerrie's family invites the community, family and friends to a memorial and burial service for her to be held at Henderson Cemetery in Pangburn, Arkansas on Friday, April 5, 2024 beginning in at 2:00 p.m. In advance of the memorial and burial service, the family will hold a visitation at Roller Daniel funeral home in Searcy, Arkansas on Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
