I served in the Army.

Roy Sherrell LloydI am a Veteran.

of Paris, AR

January 3, 1937 - March 28, 2024

Roy went to join the Lord on March 28th, 2024 in Fort Smith, AR. He was born the 2nd of 2 children in Paris, Arkansas to Roy Marvin and Dora Idell on January 3, 1937. He married Sue Spears on October 13, 1962; they were married 61 and ½ years. He had a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Arkansas. He was an Agri School teacher for one semester in Magazine, AR, 6 months active duty for Arkansas National Guard, a Supervisor for Retail Credit for 14 years in Fort Smith, AR and owner/operator of Spears Oil Company and a Radio Shack in Paris, AR for a span of several decades, he also was a cattle rancher for several years on the family farm.

He was a lifelong faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Paris. He was a Sunday School Teacher, Audio/Video operator, Elevator operator, Lawn and grounds care and held multiple positions on the church Board. He was even working on the new church elevator installation the day before he went to the hospital.

Roy was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather always making his family the top priority. He was the example of honesty, integrity and hard work to all that knew him. His walk in life reflected Christ in him as he cared for so many with his servant's heart. His family has so many fun memories of growing up spending many summer days on the lake water skiing. As a scoutmaster to so many young men, he taught them camping and life skills as they progressed through the ranks. He attended his children's sporting events, halftime band performances and too many long dance recitals!
The grandchildren have such blessed memories of holiday gatherings, Razorback tailgating and games, Mount Magazine exploring, attending grandson, Joseph's Eagle Scout ceremony and cherished beach trips.
He is survived by his wife, Sue; one son, Roy ''Mitchell'' (Sharon) of Rogers, AR; one daughter, Melissa Sherrell Udouj (Henry) of Fort Smith, AR; 4 grandchildren, Hannah, Isabella, Megan and Joseph. One niece, Catherine Barton (Tom) of Hot Springs. He is preceded in death by his Parents, Roy Marvin and Dora; Sister, Katy Lou Connelley and Nephew, Clyde Connelley III.

Ella and I are heartbroken. Mr. Roy was such a kind man who had a heart of gold. Once Evie Kate was born, he always made sure we had stuff to entertain her during church. He was always quick with a wave and a kind word. Jesus called a great one home. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Sue, their family, and the Methodist Church family.

Roy Sherrell was our neighbor across the street for several years when we lived on Chism Street. One evening, my son Brad was dressing for a school function for which he needed to wear a tie. This was after his dad passed away, and we realized that neither of us knew how to tie a Windsor knot. Roy Sherrell to the rescue! Perfect necktie. Roy was also my daughter’s landlord when she operated a bakery/cafe on Express Street. He was very kind and fair to her. One of the things I will remember most about him is the beautiful garden he made every summer down the street from me on Mary Street. No weed stood a chance among those perfect rows. He worked in it daily, continuing until just a few years ago, putting in more hours each day than most younger men would have. He was a good man. My heart goes out to Sue, Mitchell, Melissa and all the family.

Roy is probably the last of the Chism St. kids to leave this earth. Way back in the day, East Chism St. was the playground for the Lloyds, the Hixsons and the Foxes (my Dad and his siblings included). Oh, the adventures they must have had. Although Roy was younger than my Dad, they were lifelong friends. Roy was so sweet to me especially after Daddy died. Paris has lost a good man. My deepest sympathy to Sue and the entire family.
