of Morrison Bluff, AR
February 26, 1932 - March 20, 2024
Gilbert Louis Weisenfels, 92, of Morrison Bluff, Arkansas passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.
Gilbert was born February 26, 1932 in Morrison Bluff, Arkansas to his parents, Louis Gilbert Weisenfels and Philomena (Kleck) Weisenfels. After impatiently waiting several years for her to grow up, Gilbert married the love of his life, Dorothy, on April 4, 1959. He was a row crop farmer and a cattle farmer, working alongside his brother, George and son, Larry for a great many years. Gilbert was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where he sang in the choir and was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Men's Society. Gilbert loved music. In his younger years, he played the trumpet in the Rhythm Kings band and would hush any conversation that competed with his favorite polka tunes. You could always find him trying to fix things around his farm. He would be working on the lawn mower, working in the vegetable garden or tending to Dorothy's roses after her passing. Gilbert helped to establish the volunteer fire department in Scranton and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Scranton. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with his dog, Tiger and cat, Gretel. He was one of the best sausage makers, shade tree mechanics, winemakers and storytellers there ever was.
He is preceded in death by his parents mentioned above; his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Ann Weisenfels; a daughter, Margie Weisenfels; three sisters, Ann Seiter, Elizabeth Vorster and Margaret Siebenmorgen and four brothers, Stephen Weisenfels, Bernard Weisenfels, Martin Weisenfels and George Weisenfels.
He is survived by his nine daughters, Kathy Keathley and husband, Jim of Morrison Bluff, Patti Spellins of Bentonville, Theresa Schluterman of Fort Smith, Barbara Cole and husband, Mike of Russellville, Shirley Evans and husband, Scott of Fort Smith, Jane Duke and husband, Tracy of Fayetteville, Cindy Pruitt and husband, Scott of Little Rock, Janet Harmon and husband, Philip of Morrison Bluff and Christy Hatcher and husband, Michael of Morrison Bluff; three sons, Larry Weisenfels and fiancé, Sheila Thomas of Morrison Bluff, Louis Weisenfels and wife, Cheryl of Grapevine, Texas and Gary Weisenfels and wife, Teisha of Pea Ridge; twenty-seven grandchildren, Kevin, Jared, Ryan, Andy and wife, Genesis, Chris, Sean, Kelli and husband, Zach, Reed, Sam and wife, Chloe, Lauren, Jackson, Lawson, Hudson, Ethan, Hannah, Harper, Holden, Alyssa, Alex, Cayden, Kinsey, Kaitlyn, Emily, Devin, Landon, Mason and Madelyn; six great-grandchildren, McKinley, Vander, Jameson, Emma, Kyler and Lucas.
The family would like to express their most sincere appreciation and gratitude to the Heart of Hospice staff and most especially to his favorite nurse, Sherri, of whom he was very fond.
Visitation will be held from 5:30-7:00 P.M. Sunday, March 24, 2024 followed by a Rosary at 7:00 P.M. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Morrison Bluff.
