of Marshall, AR
February 26, 1930 - February 12, 2024
Muriel Rose Jane Horton, age 93, of Marshall, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 12th, 2024 at her home. She was born at home in Grandview, Arkansas on February 26th, 1930 to John A. Ragland and Laura Freeman Ragland. Muriel was married to her loving husband, Julian ''Jude'' Horton for almost 77 years.
Muriel attended school in Grandview until high school and then went to Marshall High School. She played in the State Basketball Tournament for the Bobcats in 1945. She worked odd jobs to help her family with finances. She made quilts to sell, babysit and did maintenance and cleaning for Citizens Bank for 20 years. Muriel spent her life loving and caring for her family. She loved going to gospel singings with Jude, canning the vegetables from Jude's garden and fishing with Leonard and Sue Horton. She loved her kids, grandkids, great grandkids and great-great grandkids fiercely. Muriel loved to cook for them and send them home with canned pickles and salsa. She also loved cutting up deer and making jerky for all the men in the family. She was a professional baby rocker and she would defend them no matter what they had done. She loved to play Wahoo and she taught all her grandkids how to play. Muriel loved to go places even though she would cling to the door and push a hole in the floorboard every trip. She will be greatly missed by her family.
Survivors include her husband, Julian ''Jude'' Horton of the home; children, Linda (the late Hershel) Bramlett of Botkinburg, Johnny (Loretta) Horton of Marshall, Kevin Horton of Marshall and Brady Horton also of Marshall; grandchildren, Mandy (Luke) Ragland of Marshall, Wilbur Bramlett of Botkinburg, Jason (Nancy) Horton of Russellville, Reva (Brock) Harness of Marshall, Whitney (Paul) Bradley of Marshall, Garrett (Stacy) Horton of Flippin, Jade (Seth) Brenaman of Marshall, Kasie Proffitt of Yellville, Caleb Horton of Arizona and Christian Horton of Texas and a host of great-grandkids and great-great grandkids.
Muriel is preceded in death by her parents, John and Laura Ragland and two brothers, Paul Lloyd Ragland and Donald Leroy Ragland.
A graveside memorial service will be 1:00 PM Thursday, February 15th, 2024 at Grandview Cemetery near Morning Star, Arkansas with Bro. Rick Montgomery and Bro. Jason Horton officiating. Bearers will be Brock Harness, Wilbur Bramlett, Luke Ragland, Isaac Bramlett, Blayn Harness and Ethan Ragland. Honorary bearers will be Brady Horton, Johnny Horton, Kevin Horton, Garrett Horton, Caleb Horton, Christian Horton and Jason Horton.
We were sorry to hear of Muriel's passing. Rick has so many good memories of seeing Muriel and Jude when they came to her mom and dad's store there on Maumee Road. Especially when he got to play with Linda and Johnny Morris, his cousins! Also that she was a kind and happy person and how she loved to go fishing. We send our heartfelt sympathy, prayers and cousin love to all. May you be comforted in the days ahead. Rick and Marinda Holliman
