of Jonesboro, AR
June 19, 1950 - January 26, 2024
David R. Dawson, 73, of Jonesboro passed away Friday, January 26, 2024 at Regional One Hospital in Memphis, TN. David was born June 19, 1950 in Oak Park, IL to Ed and Edith Dawson. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam Era. After serving, he attended Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, where he received a bachelor's degree in marketing, he was also a member of Sigma PI Fraternity.
After college, David used his love of both talking and helping people, where he went into the Medical Equipment Business. For years, David was the owner of Medical Mobility Equipment in Jonesboro. Through his business and talent, he was able to positively affect the lives of thousands of people.
To many of the people he helped, they simply needed someone to talk to. And this was one of the things David was put on this earth to do. Talk…But also listen. David never met a stranger. To many people, especially his family, he was also Mr. Fix-it. The number of times people have said ''thank goodness we have David to fix this'' is uncountable.
David also loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports and band. Throughout many years of his life, he dedicated his time coaching youth sports, including baseball, basketball and softball. He served on the board of the Medical Equipment Association of Arkansas, was a member of the Lions Club and a big fan of Arkansas State Athletics. Especially football and ladies' basketball.
David was a very special man to many people. Whether it was a daily phone call or seeing him once a year at family reunions, which he always looked forward to. The void he leaves will be huge to fill. In classic David fashion, we use humor and love as he would, to help us get through.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his son, Chris (Sarah) Dawson; daughter, Courtney (Bob) Hilgeford; Pam Thomas (mother of Chris and Courtney); daughter, Lauren (Kyler) Gettings; Rachel Cook (mother of Lauren); grandchildren, Conrad Hilgeford, Ellie Dawson and Dawson Gettings; brother, Michael Dawson; sisters, Shari Smith and Karen (Byran) Brooks.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, 2:00 pm at Roller Farmers Union Funeral Home, 1900 W. Washington, Jonesboro with Ken Stallings officiating. A burial will follow at Herndon Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the time of service. Family will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to the City Youth Ministries of Jonesboro or The Arbor Day Foundation.

I'm so sad that David is gone. Our families were close throughout my childhood and continued as we became adults. David love to laugh and had little patience with petty minutia. I loved him like a brother and was privilged to know him for so long. Thank you for being who you were to so many people.
