Benny Jack Armes, age 90, of Marshall, Arkansas parted from this earthly life on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Ozark Health Medical Center in Clinton, Arkansas. He was born in Luxora, Arkansas on March 25th, 1933 to Ezra Garland Armes and Ima Ann Elizabeth Drewry Armes, both of Witts Springs. He was a member of the 1951 graduating class of Luxora High School, Luxora, Arkansas. He served his country in the United States Army's 6th Infantry Regiment, whose primary mission at the time was helping to guard Nazi war criminals held in Spandau Prison, Berlin, Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany). He married Ruby Tolise Cothran of Bay Village, Arkansas on September 5th, 1959 at First Assembly of God in Memphis, Tennessee.
Benny was an active member of Whitehaven Assembly of God in Memphis for more than twenty years. He served as a trustee, basketball coach, athletic director and Sunday School teacher. He and his three sons were reliably in attendance at every church workday. He was a proud member of the first Whitehaven Assembly mission trip to Mexico in 1977 and continued to participate in this outreach annually for more than 30 years. For 25 years, he worked for Memphis Light, Gas and Water, rising from a worker at the Allen Steam Plant to supervisor in the transformer repair shop. In 1984, he retired from MLG&W and he and Tolise relocated to Marshall, Arkansas. He was a loyal member of Marshall Assembly of God, driving the church van, performing maintenance and doing yardwork. For nearly 20 years, he delivered the weekly Marshall Mountain Wave newspaper. He was also a lifelong fan of the University of Arkansas Razorbacks.
Survivors include his sons, Dwayne Armes (Jamie) of Memphis, Tennessee, Greg Armes (Karen) of Hawkinsville, Georgia and Skip Armes (Angela) of Leslie, Arkansas; grandchildren, Toni, Carrie, Michael, Isaac, Nikki, Nathan, Dayton, Casey, Faith, Gary, Noah, Sarah; great-grandchildren, Solomon, Bella, Ruby, Jackson, Alaina, Addison, Lauren, Wylee, Crew, Ellie, Bailynn and Cooper and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Tolise; his parents, Ezra and Ima Armes and his brother, Wade Armes.
Funeral services for Benny will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Roller-Coffman Chapel in Marshall, Arkansas with his son, Greg, officiating. Special music will be performed by Angela Armes, Toni Wardlow, Faith Phillips and Sarah Evans. Visitation will be 1:00 PM till 2:00 PM preceding the service. Bearers will be Michael Armes, Isaac Armes, Nathan Armes, Dayton Evans, Gary Armes and Noah Evans. Honorary bearers will be Jerry Wardlow, Chris Bristow, Jeremy Reimers, Seth Griffin and Andrew Phillips. Burial will be in Marshall Memorial Gardens.

Benny and Tolise were special friends. Benny made a special effort to always invite me (Jim) to special events at the church. He was the only one to do so.
