Joe Walton Stewart, age 94, died on December 19, 2023 at his home with his children by his side. He was born in Hanover, Arkansas, July 27, 1929 to Walter and Mary (Halpain) Stewart and was raised on Halpain Ridge where hard work was a way of life that was instilled in him and his family. He went to the one room school at East Richwoods through eighth grade. Joe served in the United States Army for two years from 1951 to 1953. On August 1, 1953 he married Nada Williams and they were married 67 years until her death in 2021.
Although his years of employment included several different jobs, he spent most of his life working as an automobile mechanic, retiring from Lackey Motor Company in 1994. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, working on the farm, mowing, tinkering with anything that needed to be fixed and helping his grandsons. He was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Brinda Long and husband, Randy; his son, Terry and wife, Rachelle; four grandsons, Matt Long and wife, Tonya, Rusty Long and wife, Mary Ann, Dustin Stewart and wife, Aubrey Ann and Dylan Stewart and wife, Haley; fourteen great-grandchildren, Haley, Hayden, Kiley, Kassidy, Chloe and Grant Long and Rush, Davis, Saylor, Parker, Cooper, Crawford, Clay and Callahan Stewart. He is also survived by two brothers, Jim and Howard Stewart of Illinois; one sister, Shirley Wright of Mountain View, AR; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 67 years, Nada Williams Stewart; one granddaughter, Holly Long; seven sisters and three brothers.
Visitation is Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 5:00-7:00PM at Roller Crouch Chapel in Mountain View, Arkansas. Funeral services are Friday, December 22, 2023 at 10:00AM at Roller Crouch Chapel in Mountain View, Arkansas with Randy Long, Matt Long and Dylan Stewart officiating.
Interment will follow the funeral services at Case/East Richwoods Cemetery in Mountain View, Arkansas.
Pallbearers are Matt Long, Rusty Long, Dustin Stewart, Dylan Stewart, Hayden Long and Randy Bailey. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Stewart and Howard Stewart.
Military honors rendered by the United States Army Funeral Honors Team and the Stone County Honor Guard.
Roller Crouch Funeral Home in Mountain View, Arkansas is in charge of the arrangements.
