Louise Crutcher Rutledge, 86, of Batesville passed away November 15, 2023.
She was born February 2, 1937 in Cave City to Will ''W.D.'' Crutcher and Bertie Brewer Crutcher.
Louise met and married Bill Rutledge, her beloved husband of 36 years. They enjoyed entertaining family and friends and hosted many gatherings in their welcoming home. Louise was a dedicated educator throughout her life. After attending Arkansas College (now Lyon) she taught school in Walnut Ridge, Concord, Pleasant Plains and Batesville. She loved education and taught history and social studies for 35 years. Louise enjoyed staying informed and discussing local and world events. She loved her family, especially her grandkids and encouraged and supported each one to grow in their talents and careers.
Survivors include one daughter, Paula Rutledge of Maumelle; one sister, Pat Simmons of Batesville; four grandchildren, T'Ray Rutledge (Briana), Pepper Lee Rutledge Day (Paden), Rachel Newell, Laura Newell; two great grandchildren, Olen Philip Rutledge and Maverick Day and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Philip Rutledge; brothers, Ed Crutcher, Bill Crutcher, Bob Crutcher; sisters, Willene Self, Addie Fike, Annetta Kelly; half-brother, Dan Crutcher and half-sisters, Myrtle Burge and Irene Simpson.
A visitation will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, November 27th, 2023 at the Roller-Crouch Funeral Home in Batesville followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm. Burial will be at Kyler Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lyon College Scholarship Fund, PO Box 2317, Batesville, AR 72503-9907 or to a charity of your choice.

Pepper, I am so sorry. I didn’t know your grandmother. I wish I could have had that opportunity. She sounds like an amazing woman. I’m so glad you had her in your life growing up. It’s a wonderful blessing. I know you will miss her. God bless you and your family.

Condolences to the family. Miss Rutledge was my history teacher in junior high, and I always loved her as a teacher. God bless each of you in the coming weeks, months and year because it's not easy losing a parent.

What a great lady Louise was. I worked at Wildwood Independent living and talked to Louise every day. She will be missed.

Mrs. Rutledge was a wonderful educator, friend and a truly lovely woman. After I was grown, I would see her occasionally and she would tell me stories about my father and his family growing up in the Cave City area. My sincere condolences to all of her family.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I have some of the fondest memories of Mrs. Rutledge being my school teacher. She was certainly one of the best! I count it a blessing to have been one of her students. I’m praying for God’s peace that passes all understanding to envelope each and every one of you.
