of Jonesboro, AR
November 5, 1927 - November 11, 2023
Doris C. Hubbell, also known as "Ma Hubbell", of Jonesboro, AR was called home to be with her Lord on November 11, 2023 at the age of 96.
Born November 5, 1927 in McKenzie, TN to Everett and Effie (Bell) Mason, Doris was the oldest of ten children and quit school in the fifth grade to care for her younger siblings while her parents worked in the fields.
Known to many people in the community as "Ma Hubbell", she ran a restaurant on Nettleton Avenue, serving home cooking and practical advice for more than fifteen years. Despite a lack of formal education, she was gifted with a tremendous amount of common sense, which allowed her to overcome many challenges that she faced in her lifetime, seeing these challenges as hills that she and the Lord could conquer together.
During her life, she studied to be a nurse, worked in a carburetor factory and worked on the farm with her husband. She was also a carpenter, electrician and a plumber when she needed to be. She lovingly taught Sunday School at Rock Hill Baptist Church for more than thirty years. She was an avid reader her entire life, especially the Bible. Doris took great joy in serving the Lord and was known for being a Godly woman who always spoke what was on her mind.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband of twenty-six years, Willard; her parents; a stepdaughter, Patsy Garman; brothers, Adell Mason and Earnest Mason and sisters, Ruby Hodges, Geraldine Rowland, Mary Helen Mason, Fay Raines and Ruth Gaines.
Left to cherish the memory of Doris are her son, Gary (Nancy) Hubbell; daughters, Renee (Chris) Thompson and Regina Hubbell; grandchildren, Lisa (Gary) Richardson, Alfie Garman, Bobby Garman, John (Maria) Thompson, Liza (Aaron) Pape and Caidence Thompson; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Cora (Henry) Tilmon and Charlotte Jane Mason; life long special friends and bonus daughters, Darlene Bryant and Lisa Jo Farmer and many nieces and nephews, friends and loved ones.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Roller Farmers Union Funeral Home in Jonesboro, AR with John Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow at Rock Hill Baptist Cemetery.
A visitation will precede the service beginning at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial donations be made in Doris's name to the NEA Humane Society or to a charity of the donors choice.
Arrangements are under the care of Roller Farmers Union Funeral Home.

My condolences to the family Doris was a great friend and I will miss her dearly. Your family has my love and blessings
Sister Hubbell brought me many hours of joy while eating lunch and drinking coffee at her restaurant. She was blunt and to the point, and I always appreciated that in her. And I loved her deep laughter, seemed like it came all the way from her toes. Heaven gained a beautiful angel. Until we meet again.
Very sorry for your great loss. My prayers are with you all. God bless.
Gary & Nancy, we are so sorry to hear about your sweet mom
