I moved here in 2017 from Colorado and had 5 dogs at the time. I had been used to paying expensive rates at animal clinics out there. One day one of my dogs got sick and I was referred to Doc Blair. I immediately hit it off with Doc,when he found out of was a disabled Vet, he began to proudly share stories about his family members who had military service. Even though he was busy we had a long conversation. We were about the same age and had many of the same views about life. When it came time to pay my bill, I was shocked. It was so much less than what I was used to paying. I told the nice lady who worked at the front desk that I had to pay more than that so with 5 dogs I became a regular customer and I always paid more. What impressed me, is that Doc told me he would put the extra money on to other clients accounts. I was shocked that many people had accounts there that paid when they could. I hadn't seen that since I was a child. I told Doc many times,
Doc, you cannot die, this county needs you too much, and you are irreplaceable. I was very sadden to find out that day came. This was a tough year for me, I lost my trusted mechanic and good friend , Mike Cash, now I have lost my trusted Veterinarian and good friend Doc Blair. And those two wonderful human beings are both irreplaceable. They were from a generation of good men that is sadly dying with them.Prayers to the good family.

We were so sorry to hear of Doc’s passing. He was my 3rd cousin and a wonderful human being. One of the last times I took my German Shepherd, Annabelle, in to see Doc, I made the mistake of taking her alone without my husband. Although Doc had such a way with her as with all animals, she was in full guard mode since it was just me. Doc had to lightly sedate her in order to examine her more closely. In the blink of an eye he was done and told me I’d better “get her out to the car before she gets too drunk to walk”! Sure enough, I got her out to the car and back home before the full effect set in. He was such a kind and smart man - never too busy to reminisce about our family ties. Heaven received another angel. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. We love you Buddy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family.

Since October, their is an irreplaceable void in Searcy County. Regarding the services Dr. Blair provided to the citizens of Searcy County and the low rates he charged, Dr.Blair will be the most missed man ever in Searcy County. The Clifford, Aday, family thought Doc Blair was One of a kind vet they enjoyed him coming, working the cattle and visiting with them. we got a dog a few years back look like it had the Mange took it to the vet here in Clinton numerous times spent lots and lots of money came in one Wednesday evening. My husband said let’s take it to Marshall To Doc Blair we walked in his office. I took the papers with me to show him it had been to a vet several times he looked at me and said go to the farm store and get you a $14.00 bottle of And if it don’t kill her in the first dose, she will look lots better in three days . we still have the dog and she is beautiful.

G.C. Blair was a Searcy County original. He graduated vet school with top marks. He could have practiced anywhere but chose to come home to Searcy County. He practiced with compassion for animals, large and small, and as necessary, their owners. More than once, I recall him coming during calving season when it was dark and well into the evening to assist with a difficult delivery.

Once he returned to Searcy County, it’s difficult to imagine anyone doing more for the community. If it happened, chances are he was involved in it.
He was active in church, the local lodge(s) and even local politics. I remember him serving both as a JP, a member of the School Board, and then later as a member of the election commission.

I recall that he had a vocational agriculture degree. He once told me that, at the time, he “wasn’t in any hurry to get out of school.” Whatever his motives, he never lost his enthusiasm for agriculture and donated countless hours to support FFA, 4-H and other organizations.

He is one of the few people who could actually pull off a handlebar mustache. He had a wonderful, dry sense of humor which he frequently used to good effect while enjoying a moment’s respite at the E. Daniel
Hardware store.

While he loved Searcy County, he was a devoted family man. I recall him being at many ballgames and school event’s because Amanda, JEB, or both were participating in something.

My condolences to his family, and to his friends. It is difficult for me to imagine Searcy County without him.

I want to express my condolences to Doc’s family, his many friends, and to the community that he served so well for so many years. Doc was one of the first people that I became acquainted with when first coming to Searcy County to campaign for state representative 25 years ago. Many of my favorite memories come from Doc and George Daniel at the hardware store. His sound advice, wisdom, and friendship became a treasure to me and his commitment to his community was something I always admired.

Doc was a treasure and will truly be missed by all of us who had the honor of knowing him. Even though I have unfortunately gone several years without seeing him, I still think of him often and am grateful for the opportunity to have called him my friend.

Burt and I have had the great honor to have known Doc. Serving on the School Board gave me the opportunity to get to know him on a more personal level. We loved his since of humor . On memory we have is, I had a Persian cat that got out and came home with cockleburs all over her and I had to take her to Doc to get his suggestion on what to do. He said het would have to shave her. When I came back to pick her up I couldn't stop laughing. He shaved all of her fur except the front of her face, tail, and her paws. I asked Vicky to put her in a box cause every time I looked at her I laughed uncontrollably. He just looked at me and and smiled. It was the craziest thing I had every seen. Another time I acquired 8 calves. On got sick so Doc came out to the farm to check it our. He gave me instructions on how to give a shot. I looked at him and said I couldn't hurt it. He smiled and coached me through it. I stood there for several minutes with the syringe and started to cry. (I've always had a fear of shots).He just told me to rare back and go for it. We had many laughs about it later. Elaine, Jeb, and Amanda, please know we are praying for all of you.

This is Melissa, posting for Granny Dean Smyth. She sends her condolences and said that she's been so grateful that Doc came back here and set up his practice. He helped a lot of people! She had some stories to share:

"Marian's cat Mella got sick and I took him up there to Doc Blair's and he just kept him and kept him and kept him. And I kept askin' him when can I get my cat back He said, "Well, I'm using him." Of a night, he'd open all the doors to all the cabinets of his operating room and let Mella out of his cage. And the next mornin' he'd have a whole pile of mice caught. And he finally let me come and get him."

"Doc Blair always came down to the store and eat dinner. When that grocery store was next door, he’d go down there and get what he wanted. And he loved cottage cheese. He’d always buy those great big containers of cottage cheese. He went down there and got him one of them. He liked head cheese, souse. He bought him a package of that and some real cheese. And crackers. Someone asked 'Why don't you eat like normal people and get you a hamburger' Doc Blair said this was a lot better than a hamburger! He’d eat cottage cheese or what he wanted and then he’d put it back there in my refrigerator for the next day. They’d stay back there til he’d eat it all gone. I’d bring them home and wash them and put stuff up in the freezer in those."

"We’d always work our cattle before winter time. It’d take him all day long. Of course, we’d help him. We’d get them in the corral and he’d be worming them. He’d say 'Check and see if her butt’s dirty.' And if her butt was dirty, he’d worm her. And if it wasn’t, then nope, she don’t need it. He wouldn’t worm her."

My Dad and Doc Blair are first cousins, but I never got to meet the Blair side of my family. I have studied all about my lineage and decided to stop in one day at Doc’s vet clinic to meet him . He was so warm and friendly and invited me and my daughter to come to his house for Christmas and meet our family.

I drove through town again this weekend and learned that he had passed. I was so touched by his kindness and sad that we never got the chance to take him up on his invitation. Sending love and prayers to all the Blair Family. I hope to still meet you all one day.

Dr. Blair was one of a kind. He had such an impact on our community and we are all better people for knowing him. He cared deeply about his community. He always had time to listen, teach, and tell stories of the good old days. For over 16 years he cared for our animals. No matter the time of night he was always there for me in an emergency. "I'll meet you there." He always amazed me how well he could reposition a puppy in a difficult delivery. It is a comfort to know that he is with the Lord. Doc was the finest man and vet I knew. I’ve known him practically my whole life. He has told me so many stories about my mother and raising cows, horses, goats, & pigs. Now that my husband is taking Carrie of my brothers farm he’s always answering questions for us and he’s always right. This past spring I took my dog to Doc Blair and I had a list of all the shots a previous vet had given. I said go ahead and give her all she needs ….he said “why if I gave all those shots, I’d make so much money Elaine never would stay home”! Elaine and I are good friends and taught together for years at Clinton. I couldn't wait to tell her that. In one of his last comments Elaine wrote he said “ I feel like I’ve been sent for and couldn’t come”…..really that sums up this fine man: when he was sent for to help his community or for a farm call, he came. It is a privilege to have known him. Peace and comfort to all who loved him…..

Buddy and I were classmates in the Class of 64' at Marshall. I knew when he was in high school, he was destined for a great life. He was like a man among boys even then. Everyone loved Buddy. I will miss Doc Blair a lot. He took care of my cats and cows. I could listen to him talk all day. He knew what he was doing with animals large and small. He was a friend of my dad’s (Alfred Steen). I have known Doc my entire life and he never changed a bit. (everyone knew Doc, he was the go-to guy)
I really got to know him and Elaine both when I worked in the Clerk's office, and he was an Election Commissioner and she helped train and do elections. I always loved the night of the Election; he always kept us on our toes with his jokes and storytelling. Sometimes he would stop in to just tell me a new joke or story. He was always just a call away if I had a question about anything, from elections, our dogs, or farm animals. He will be missed greatly. Our prayers and love go to Elaine and family.

So very sorry to hear of Doc's passing. He was sure one of kind. The knowledge he had was amazing and he didn't mind sharing that with anyone. He didn't need or want all the fancy up to date stuff such as computers, ex-ray machines and such, you either paid with cash or check, or didn't pay at all, that was his way. Our son took a dog to him for what he thought was a broke leg, Doc put him on the table, felt of it and said, yep its broke, put a rod in, kept him over night and sent him home the next day, the dog is still doing great. One funny we still laugh at, Chester asked him once if he thought pour on wormer was better than injectable for cattle, Doc replied, well, say you have a headache, take an aspirin, put it in a glass of water and dissolve it, then pour it on your head and see if your headache goes away. Made perfect sense to us but we still laugh about it.
Prayers to all his family and all the community as he is one that won't be replaceable.

I knew Doc my whole life. He took care of numerous horses, dogs, cats, cattle, and he did his best to coach me on pigs when we had them (“oh, you can do this, just come by and pick up some stuff at the office and I’ll tell you how” - on sewing up a prolapsed rectum on a pig- eventually several over the years).
I loved his stories. So much knowledge about the area and how things were done in years past (talking pigs, silage, the list goes on and on).
He knew my oldest horse, now 31, his whole life. He remembered names of the ones I had the longest through the years. He was always willing to explain and answer my endless questions. He was a great educator and his care and concern for the critters in his care was apparent.
What a loss for the community- human and animal alike. But what a full life. My heart goes out to his family. Thank you for everything Doc. We’re sure going to miss you.

I have many memories of Doc thru the years.
I called him early on a cold Christmas morning, our milk cow was down with milk fever, he apologized for taking so long as that diesel truck was cold.
Another time he was working our few head of cattle, was telling me about this wild plant, don't remember the plant, but he told me to eat it, I said what if cows had wet on it, he says," just eat it, it won't kill ya". It didn't.
I hope he knew how much we all loved him.

Doc was a true Searcy County treasure. He was kind enough to let me make calls with him when I was a kid aspiring to be a vet. Although I wasn't ultimately able to do that, he was always available to help us with whatever animal needed him. Last call I remember my kids & I were home for the summer and we'd gone over to help dad try to turn & pull a calf. We couldn't turn it so Doc came out in the middle of the night, couldn't save the calf but did save the cow for which my dad was so grateful. Doc has always taken care of us and our crazy pets. He way undercharged. He could just look at em and tell you what was wrong. Elaine was my teacher at Clinton. I will never forget the time I took my rescue opossum in for shots and he put his hand on his hip and said.. Do opossums in the woods need shots .. I say noooo ..Well yours don’t either Missy!! We are truly grateful for everything Doc did for our farm. I loved to listen to all his stories. He got quite a few Rocky Mountain oysters from our sheep. He always made me laugh. Doc, was "The Best". I learned something every time he took care of our animals. He told me about a "death gene" in cattle and went on to say, " People don't want to believe that, but do you know what it's true". One thing he said has changed my way of looking at beef when I grocery shop. He said, Do you know what You can walk down that meat section.and you see a package of meat that has a lot of blood in the package, that's bull meat, And you know what Another package maybe not be so bloody looking, that's a cow or heifer, And do you know what You see one with not much blood at all, that's a steer. So, now I look carefully at what I buy, and he always had an answer for any question you might have. Greatly missed, but "You know what Doc, it's time to rest. Rest in Peace!

What a huge loss to ALL the residents and farmers of Searcy county. Doc was such a caring, kind person and a great 'ole school' veternarian. I always appreciated how he would engage me along with the cow he might be treating. He was matter of fact, told you what he thought and what to expect and you didn't have to go take out a loan to pay for his services!!! I have a lapdog that there has been some confusion about what type of dog she is. We were told one thing. The DNA said another thing. When I took her to Doc for shots, I asked him if he had any idea what type of dog she was. He pondered for a moment, looking her over, look me straight in the eye and said, ‘Well she’s not a cat.’ Doc was always right.

Although I haven’t seen Doc Blair in decades, a memory I have from my childhood comes to mind. I had a small peacock chick with a leg problem. Instead of dismissing a child’s concern, he put it in a “cast” - effectively wrapping tape around its leg. Perfect example of compassion on his part.

I worked with Bud at the Green Forest sale barn for several years. Several times he would get calls for emergencies after the sale. One time in particular we had to stop by a farm to deliver a calf. It was dark when we finally got there. The cow was in the lot and Bud roped it and I snubbed it to a post. He went to work the cow but she laid down but that didn't stop him. After Bud delivered the calf he was covered with manure and blood and then as he washed up Bud told the gentleman, "Well, it's time to get supper" with a big grin. I thought the gentleman was going to lose it right there.
This is just one of our adventures and there were so many. I will cherish my time with him and never forget the lessons he taught me.

My condolences to Ealine and family. He came to our farm many times. Oncei was here and a cow was calving and couldn't. Called Doc calf was dead inside so I said what are you gonna do, now hear his low drawl. Im going to go in and cut it up to get it out. I said I cant watch that, im leaving. "Well Cathy, you just do what you have to do to save yourself" he says. Well, down the hill I went. I said Doc, See ya. He's done so much for so many people. A few months ago he was at our farm helping us work the cows. When we got done, we sat and talked for over an hr. I could sit and listen to his stories forever. I've got a story!
About 25 years ago I was watching a local farmer's herd while his family was on vacation. One of the days, the farmer had arranged for Doc to come and castrate all of his little bull calves. Of course, when Doc arrives, he has all of his instruments in a rather large stainless steel pail. I proceeded to enquire of him why he needed such a large pail to carry his instruments. He politely informed me that it was to carry his treasure of Mountain Oysters home with! He probably left with about half a pail full!

Doc Blair always taught me something when I’d take an animal to him for care. He told stories to my children and was loving, caring, and kind. He just helped us this September when one of our Guernseys went down with a calcium/ phosphorus imbalance after calving. He coached us through how to care for our girl and gave us hope when we were devastated and thought our cow wouldn’t ever get back up. She made a full recovery. This is just one instance of many of how Doc Blair helped us and and our animals. He was truly a jewel in this life, he will be so deeply missed. May his memory be eternal.

I am so sorry for your loss. He was a very special person. He was always there when we needed him. I have taken a dog and a cat to him to have to be put down cause nothing else could be done for them and while I sat there and cryed, he cryed right along with me. He had a heart of gold whether it was a percious pet he was taking care of or if it was someone he seen on the street. He always took everything to heart. I think that is what made him so special. He took care of our precious pets with heart and love. He didn't do it to get rich, he did it out of love. There is a special place in Heaven for Doc Blair. And he will be met with open arms.
