He enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII, where he served in the South Pacific aboard the USS Sitkoh Bay. He was honorably discharged and returned to Phillips County to farm. He met his wife of sixty-seven years, Jewell Jackson and they had a remarkable life together, raising a family, working in the community and their Baptist Church, attending horse races, traveling, hunting, fishing and entertaining.
Buron loved his family, his farm and working hard. He had an expectation for himself and others to always do one's best. He instilled a strong work ethic into his family and led by example. Buron was involved in multiple businesses during his lifetime, including Buron Griffin Farms, Elaine Implement Company, Helena Wholesale and Helena Rice Dryer and Grainery, to name a few.
Buron was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Sandy Bayou Duck Club, a former member of Hardin Point Hunting Club. He had every species of North American Turkeys as trophies on his wall. Buron was member number 365 of the North American Sheep Hunters Association Grand Slam Club. This honor was achieved by completing a collection of four North American Big Horn Sheep.
Buron was a single engine pilot and a former member of the Flying Farmer's Association. He won Best Spot Lander at the Helena Airport and taught others to fly. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he attended until his health prevented his attendance. He was also a thirty-second degree Mason.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Jewell Jackson Griffin; his parents, Frank Griffin Sr., Louise Mixon Griffin; brothers, Brooks Griffin, Frank Griffin, Jr; sister, Ruth Griffin and grandson, Griffin Marczuk.
Buron is survived by his son, Buron Griffin, Jr. (Judy) of Helena, Arkansas; daughter, Mary Jane Orellano (Daniel) of Little Rock, Arkansas; grandson, Tracy Griffin (Amy) of Helena, Arkansas; great-grandchildren, Tripp and Carolyne Griffin; sisters, Maureen Jenkins of Phoenix, Arizona, Fran Ourzo of Dallas, Texas and many nieces and nephews.

We give a special thank you to Dr. Scott Hall, Leigh Ann Guest and Bobbie Ford. The family is grateful to Cecilia Smith, RN and all the staff of Elite Hospice, who provided comfort and care to Buron at the end of his life.
