Clifton Austin SartinI am a Veteran.

of Little Rock, AR

April 30, 1951 - September 9, 2023

Clifton Austin Sartin, dedicated husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend passed away on September 9, 2023.

Austin was born the second of four children, to Billie Faye and Clifton Norman Sartin on April 30, 1951 in England, Arkansas. He worked in the retail and distribution industry most of his career. He had a passion for woodworking and he never met a stranger!

After graduating high school from North Little Rock in 1969 he joined the Navy where he served till 1973. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He also spent 5 years in the Army National Guard.

He met his wife, Anita Gail (Perry), in Little Rock and they were married June 21, 1976. Soon after they welcomed their first child, John and later the family grew to 4 with the birth of Joshua.

Through the years Austin enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He had a passion for teaching CPR and spent many years as a trainer for Target. He loved watching the Razorbacks, but most weekends you would find him in his wood shop working or tinkering.

Austin was preceded in death by his mother and father, Billie Faye (Vastine) and Clifton Norman Sartin; sister, Judie Gates; brother, Charles Sartin and nephews, Bart, Kenneth and Phillip Sartin.

He is survived by his wife, Gail Sartin; his two sons, John Sartin (Bridget) and Joshua (Vaquessa) Sartin; his five grandchildren, Collin, Jackson, Hayden, Brendie and Brendan and his brother, Gary (Malynda) Sartin.

I met Mr. Sartin in 2010 when I took a part time job substitute teaching at NLRHS. At that time he was helping out at the school as well and became one of my best pals at work. I had just graduated med school and took a year off before starting my residency training. One day I mentioned to him how I really needed a bookshelf for my growing collection of books but was frustrated by how expensive well built bookshelves cost. He lit up at that comment and told me about his woodworking and how he’d be more than happy to build me a bookshelf for a reasonable price. That shelf served me well after I moved off for residency training, and continues to serve our family well as it’s now a centerpiece in my youngest child’s bedroom for his growing collection of books. It’s an extremely solid, practical, and pleasant piece of woodworking, much like Mr. Sartin was all of those things as a person. Til we meet again old pal.

I served with Austin and Gary in the National Guard for several years. Both guys were hard workers. I usually asked Gary how was when I saw him. He always said he was doing well. I’m sorry for the loss to the Sartin family. May he rest in peace.

My prayers are with the family. Austin was a sweet and talented man. We graduated from NLRHS together and it was so much fun to reconnect with him when he came to substitute teach at East Campus. He will be missed and his woodworking talent will live on in the lives of those blessed to possess his work.

I have so many great memories when I think of Austin. Back before I married into the family and we moved away, I remember Austin to always be so nice to me. He always included me and enjoyed joking with me and having fun! He was friendly and caring. I am so sorry that I won't be at the service, but please know that I am praying for all of you. I am praying that God will give Gail, the boys, Gary, Malynda and his precious grandchildren a comfort and peace that only God can provide. We love you all. Robin (and Gene) Hutchins
