Sue Ellen Smith, 79, of Bryant passed on August 16, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born August 28, 1943 to parents, Joe and Sylvia Norwood. Sue graduated from Central High School in 1961 where she met the love of her life and husband of 62 years, Leland Smith. They were married on June 18, 1961.
A beloved mother and Gram, she loved spending time with her family watching sports, in the kitchen cooking and expressing her creativity through crafting. Sue loved the Lord and was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church for many years. She will be remembered for her spunk and sense of humor, which never dimmed even in the face of her courageous battle with cancer.
Sue is survived by her husband, Leland Smith; daughter, Dana Smith; daughter, Laura (Evan) Yarberry; grandchildren, Haley, Dylan, Sydney, Jackson and Hunter; great-grandchildren, Henry, Jamie and Heath and brother, Jim (Diane) Norwood. She is predeceased by her parents and her brother, Bob Norwood.
Visitation will be this Saturday morning, 8/19, from 8:30-9:30 am at Roller Alcoa in Benton, followed by a graveside service by Dr. Terry Parrish at 11 am at Forest Hills Cemetery on Highway 5.
Leland - Just saw Sue's obituary in the paper today. So sorry for you and the family. Sue was one of the funniest and delightful persons I ever knew. We attended Central high together and then later in life she showed up at Smith Fiberglass where we shared more years as friends. May God give you comfort in knowing she is under his direct care now and she's looking forward to a reunion with you again.
My heart hurts for y'all. We love you and will pray for you.
Laura, I’m so saddened to hear about your mom. My heart goes out to you, your dad and family.
Leland, your right, Sue is in Heaven, with, GOD, Love, and in No Pain. We should be happy for her, and celebrate her life! If there's anything I can do, to help you , let us know.
Jim. and Sandy Parks
I’m not sure yet how I’m going to make it but I pray God will get me through this! Sue and I had so many good memories and good times together and had such wonderful daughters and eventually grandchildren and great grandchildren and wonderful memories of each! How blessed we were! Sue had fought such a courageous battle with the devil of diseases, cancer, but through it all she keep a good attitude and had plans to beat it, kick that devil out, and continue with a good life! She almost made it but our Lord and Savior took her in his loving arms and offered protection! I’m certainly going to miss the love of my life but no longer have to see her suffer through all the terrible treatments! Leland.
Rest easy Ms. Sue - you will live on in the hearts of your family and friends. To the family- may your sorrow be transformed into a thanksgiving for her life and her love.
Leland and family :
May your heart and soul find peace and comfort.
So sorry for y’all’s loss! I will never forget how Sue always made me feel like family. Breakfast for dinner around her table always got us home from riding our bikes in jr high. Love you all and sending prayers
