Charles Henry Oxner, Sr., age 88, passed away Monday, July 31, 2023 at his home in Cabot. He was born in Marianna, Arkansas on June 8, 1935, son of Susie Viola and John Henry Oxner. His early education was in Marianna public schools, graduating from Marianna High School.
Charles was well-known and highly respected in the food distribution industry throughout Arkansas, his long and successful career including management positions at Safeway, Colonial Bread, Eagle Brand Snacks and Flowers Baking Company.
Eloping, he married Juanita Jackson of West Helena on June 5, 1954. Charles is survived by Juanita, his wife of 69 years and by his four children, Sherry Johnson (Siegfried) of Hot Springs Village, Charles Henry Oxner, Jr. (Tracy) of Hot Springs Village, Stanley Lane Oxner of El Dorado and Paula Ann Gibson (Terry) of North Little Rock. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Charles was pre-deceased by his parents and four siblings, Joyce Moore, Marjorie Gardner, John Henry Oxner, Jr. and Loyd Oxner.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 3, with a visitation at 9:00 a.m., at Roller-Owens Funeral Home in North Little Rock. A committal service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena, Arkansas.
Dear Juanita and family, so sorry for your loss. I would have come to the visitation but was in Ohio for the celebration of my mom’s home going. I have fond memories of those days in Pine Bluff but especially going with all of you to Mariana for 4th of July. Special regards to Charlie, Stanley, and Paula.
I was sorry to hear about Mr Oxner passing. I remember him from my grocery store days. As well as I worked with Charles JR, Our prayers and thoughts are with the family.
My condolences are with you. Everyone loved Charlie I worked with Charlie my first job I was 15 years old working for Safeway on East Broadway NLR. He made work fun for all the employees. I have very fond memories. His favorite saying when he passed me was ( hurry ever chance you get) my prayers are with you
