David Henry Woodall, Jr.I am a Veteran.

of Little Rock, AR

September 19, 1931 - July 25, 2023

David Henry Woodall, Jr. passed into his Savior's arms on July 25, 2023 at the age of 91. He was born September 19,1931 and was the only child of David, Sr. and Lucyle Woodall of Little Rock, AR.

David, the most loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather is survived by his wife, Naomi; children Paula Phelan (Jim) and Gaila Chatham (Gary); grandchildren Abigail Rainwater (Ben), Garret Benson (Marlee), Emily Chatham, and Oliver Chatham; great-grandchildren Hannah and Ruthie Rainwater.

He graduated in 1950 from Little Rock High School. He was proud to have been drum major of the only high school in Little Rock. He attended UALR for two years before joining the United States Navy in 1952. He completed his tour of duty in 1955 on the USS Bremerton, his home away from home during the Korean War.

A year later, David met the love of his life, the woman who would stand by his side 68 years through thick and thin, Naomi Ruth Abbott. They married on July 10, 1956.

David was a devoted Christian, accepting Christ at age 9. Through the years he served in several Baptist churches as choir director, youth pastor, and deacon. He was a willing servant for any job needed at the church, but his favorite way of serving was being the greeter at the front door of Immanuel Baptist Church.

After spending almost a decade with Gerber Baby Food, David went on to fulfill his lifelong dream of owning his own business. In 1972 David and Naomi bought the Central Arkansas Roto Rooter franchise and grew the business from one to 17 trucks, making it the number one franchise in the country. Following their success with Roto Rooter, the couple purchased 100 acres of land in Alexander, AR where they raised cattle and ostriches. David's favorite thing to do on the farm was to take friends and family on hayrides in the fall and host Easter egg hunts in the spring.

He constantly encouraged anyone who would listen to pursue their best life, to make the most of their God-given gifts, to never stop learning, and to trust God with all their heart. David loved to talk about the many ways that God had blessed him and his family. You could not help but be inspired after being with David Woodall for a few minutes.

David was truly a great man whose impact will be forever felt by his family. His willingness to sacrifice, provide, support, forgive, and love will be forever ingrained in all who knew him.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m, Friday, July 28, 2023 at Immanuel Baptist Church.

My condolences to the family. I have known Mr. Woodall since I was in elementary school. Spent many weekends with them as at the time Paula was my best friend. I loved spending time with them and Mr. and Mrs. Woodall were so kind to me. I am sure he will be missed by many. Becky Jo Kerr Green.

He was a (great) uncle. He was always concerned about how we were doing. I loved him very much. I wish I could have been able to come to his funeral. We will be praying for Sissy and all the family.

Mr Woodall was always known to me as Paula and Gaila’s dad. He was always upbeat and smiling. My favorite memory was when all the girls went to the Miss Arkansas pageant and here Mr Woodall would come with sacks of burgers and treats for us!
He was loved and will be missed.

I remember David from his years at Gerber, I was salesman for Wonder/ Hostess and would see and talk to him often in the stores. He always was friendly and seemed to be such a good person. I’m know he’ll be missed on this earth but I’m sure God has other plans for him. My sympathies go out to the family.

Mr. Woodall was a wonderful man. He used to sit and talk to me as a young man who he included in the conversations not just speaking one sided. He will be sorely missed on this earth. Raised a pretty good family too.

Mr. Woodall left this world a better place, left it a beautiful legacy of family and taught many people the love of hard work, godly marriage, devoted father and grandfather. We didn’t know him personally but he certainly left a special mark in our lives by giving us his precious daughter and our friend, Gaila. We are praying for the coming days to be filled with lots of beautiful memories and peace knowing he is with his beloved Savior.
