of Little Rock, AR
November 3, 1928 - May 24, 2023
Barbara Ann Overstreet Pettet of Little Rock, AR passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.
Barbara was born in St. Joseph, MO on November 3, 1928. After graduating from St. Joseph Junior College, she enjoyed her career as a bookkeeper and homemaker. While in college she met the love of her life, Sherman Pettet, at the Frog Hop Dance Hall. After marrying in 1951, Sherman and Barbara moved to San Diego, CA, where he was stationed with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. It was this experience where Barbara gained her life long passion of traveling and exploring.
Barbara was an independent, kind soul who had a generous heart. She excelled at making every holiday, birthday, anniversary or any other special occasion truly memorable. She loved to travel with others, such as a trip to Spain with her daughter, Melinda and granddaughter, Christine. Most importantly, she was an incredible mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren believe that she helped mold them into who they are today.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnson and Frances Overstreet; her husband of 70 years, Sherman Pettet and her brother, Jack Overstreet.
She is survived by her daughter, Melinda Faubel (Steve) of Little Rock; grandchildren, Christine Hogg (Joshua) of Fort Collins, CO, Wilson Faubel of Dallas, TX, Christian Faubel (Emily Claire) of New York City, NY; sister, Jean Shay of Austin, TX and nephews, Dennis Shay (Kathy) of Austin, TX and Jeff Shay (Ronnette) of Kyle, TX.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 30 at 3 p.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park with Pastor Roy P. Smith officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Food Bank, 4301 W. 65th St., Little Rock, AR, 72209. The family would like to thank the caring staffs at Briarwood Nursing Center and Parkway Village Assisted Living in Little Rock.

Barbara was the kindest person I know. She was a wonderful friend to our family, but especially to my mother. She was the best friend a person could ever hope to have. I have great memories of helping Barbara and mother with their garage sales. We had so much fun. Prayers for peace and comfort for your family at this time. I am so sorry that I will not be able to attend the funeral…..we have a family funeral at the same time.
I have such great memories of growing up with the Pettets as friends on Purdue Circle: Moms playing cards while we swam at Western Hills Pool, church functions, sleep-overs dancing to the Monkees. It was truly an idyllic childhood and Barbara was a large part of that.
The McCoy children are especially grateful for Barbara’s kindness to our mother during her journey with Alzheimer’s. Many friends seemed to disappear, but Barbara continued to be a caring friend.
All our love and sympathy,
Jane McCoy Harkey, Amanda McCoy Hendrix, Jeff Mccoy
We are sorry for you loss.
