of Little Rock, AR
December 7, 1937 - May 19, 2023
Our precious Mother, Barbara Hickingbotham Wood, went to be with the Lord on May 19, 2023. Thank you God for your Grace and Mercy and eternal life, through your son, Jesus Christ. To God be the Glory.
Barbara was born on December 7, 1937 in Eudora, Arkansas to Marnette Dardelle Peacock and Herren Iverson Peacock. She grew up in Lake Village and McGehee, Arkansas. She graduated from McGehee High School and received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Arkansas in Monticello.
Barbara was a long-term member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She served in many ways, including the founding of the Prayer Shawl Ministry. She taught others to make scarves, over 600 in total, that were delivered to those facing hardship or pain. She served as the Regional Director of Green Thumb/Experience Works, Inc. She also held the position of Arkansas Executive Director of the National Society to Prevent Blindness and was the Director of Internal Affairs under Secretary of State Kelly Bryant. She also served her community as a member of the Parkway Village Board of Trustees, Rotary, American Management Association and 55 Plus Advisory Council for Baptist Health Medical Center.
Barbara is survived by her two sons, Herren and Todd and her five grandchildren, Hayden, Christian, Todd II, Hunter and Harrison. She was married to Roy Wood for 27 wonderful years and they truly cherished each other and the time they shared.
Mom will always be remembered for putting her two sons and family first in her life. She cherished time with all her family, especially reunions, when family was celebrated and special stories were shared. Mom made sure that Christ was the center of our home and that the Bible was the most important book we could ever read. Her favorite Bible verse was Jeremiah 29:11: ''For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'' Mom will be missed, but her love will always endure and be everlasting.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 11 am at Immanuel Baptist Church. Donations may be made to the Ginny and Bob Shell Alzheimer's Center at Parkway Village, Little Rock, AR.
I’m sorry to learn of Barbara’s passing. She was so kind to introduce me to her prayer shawl group at Immanuel. I was a writer at Leisure Arts at the time, and Barbara helped me gather information and photos on the work of prayer shawl volunteers. I was glad to know Barbara; she was a true servant to the community.
I’m just learning about this loss through Immanuel’s Legacy magazine where there’s a beautiful tribute this month. Barbara and I volunteered in the single adult ministry there in 1986-87 and shared many happy and meaningful conversations and projects. I regret falling out of touch after I moved away. I experienced Barbara as real, hard working, spiritual and vivacious. I know she’s organizing prayer groups in heaven and I hope she saves me a seat for our ultimate reunion. Love and peace to her family and many friends.
My deepest condolences to Herren and Todd and their families on the passing of their Mother Mrs. Barbara. I have known this family since I was a young child. I know she will be missed by many. Becky Jo Kerr Green

Dear Herren, Todd, Roy, and all the grandchildren,
I'm so sorry for your loss -- my memories of Barbara have been running through my mind the last several days, especially family reunions. My brother David reminded me of when Barbara met him and Daddy in England -- her first trip there -- and the fun that they had exploring. She was always so sweet to Daddy and he loved visiting her -- I know you all will miss her, but her loving nature lives on in her children and grandchildren. Take good care.
Dear Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom was a very special lady, and I am so thankful for the years she and Roy were able to have together. I will be praying for your family.
God Bless,
Andrea Payne
Roy, Herren and Todd,
So sorry for the loss of my Cousin Barbara. She will be sorely missed . May God grant you peace and comfort during the upcoming days.
Dear Roy, Herren, Susan, and Todd
So sorry to hear of my cousin Barbara’s passing. I can agree with all the comments about her pride in her family. She was always ready to share her joy with her family. My mother Euna Lee Bishop Pierce is Barbara’s first cousin and still living at 99, so I have a lifetime of memories. When I was a little girl, I stayed with Barbara on occasion. I loved how glamorous she was and how she doted on me. She would paint my fingers and toes and I thought that was grand. I also remember her convertible Thunderbird car. Barbara always had style. She will be missed.
Barbara was such a lovely lady and will be missed by many. Our sincere condolences to Roy, Herren, Susan and her many dear friends.
Our sincerest condolences.
Herren and Susan, Barbara was a beautiful woman inside and out. I hold you all in my heart. Peace of the Lord Be with You. Jane

Herren and Todd, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. I am thinking of, and praying for, you both and your families.
To Roy, Herren , Todd and all of Barbara’s family.
Her loss is a loss for all of us who have known all of you for so many years. She was a wonderful Christian mother and grandmother and a brilliant light in our community.
She is already missed.
Barbara was such a delight to know. She was a beautiful and sweet Christian lady who loved her family very much. Barbara delighted telling you about her sons and grandchildren. We always enjoyed visiting with Barbara and Roy and being in their Sunday School Class.
We were blessed by Herren finding a Peacock for his beloved mother in Japan, and a prayer shawl that was gifted to us at Museum Tower. Thanks for the graciousness and love! RIP and sincere condolences!!
Herren and Susan,
My deepest sympathies go to you and the rest of your family. Barbara was truly the epitome of a southern belle. She told me the story of you Herren buying her all these peacock ornaments for her Christmas tree because her maiden name was Peacock. She was very proud of her grands as well. You are in my thoughts and prayers, Mary Burton
Our sincere sympathy in the loss of your Mother. Cherish the fond memories you will always have to comfort you.
Love you my cousins, family was so important and she so loved time with family . She is at peace and we will grow from what she brought to the earth!
Oh Herren and Todd, the memories of fifty plus years have come flooding in today as I realize that Barbara is gone. From our early days in Church at Immanuel to the years we were neighbors on Valley Club and then all the subsequent years of our "group" celebrating our birthdays together, attending the Symphony performances and the Broadway plays with seasons tickets. Barbara was there for me during the hard times of Ernie's illness -- we laughed and cried together over the years. The obituary mentioned her family being the most important thing in her life. She certainly was devoted to the two of you and her grandchildren. I know she talked to them often about Jesus which is what a Grandparent should do! I will miss her but will cherish the memories.
Ms. Barbara was a wonderful person and mother to her two boys. I had the honor of baby sitting Herron and Todd on occasion for the family as a teenager. Happy memories
Our most sincere condolences Susan and Herren. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Eileen and Ricardo.
Sweet sweet Barbara! Such a good friend and neighbor! God Blessed her and will keep her forever! With Sympathy. ðŸ™
I loved this beautiful women and was so fortunate to be in her life for so many years and be taught grace by her. She shared so much with me and I always admired the love and pride she had for her family. Her faith was not only shared but lived everyday. ♥ï¸
We met Barbara at Immanuel Baptist church. She was the first person to ask us to sit with her and Roy. From that time on, we fell in love with this sweet woman. She was the epitome of a virtuous woman. She loved her boys and grandchildren dearly. We are thankful for knowing her. I know she is rejoicing in heaven. We will miss her.
A beautiful and close friend for many years. We shared so many good and memorable times together. May she
always be remembered by her sweet
heart and loving personality. Love always in her heart and never met a
stranger. Peace for her family.
What a sweet beautiful angel she was. She was so kind to me after the death of my husband. A precious spirit. My heart is hurting. Loved this little one.
