James Edward Tucker, age 88, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023 at his home in Elaine, Arkansas. Born on Tuesday, February 26, 1935 at Dallas, Texas he was the son of Lorraine Gibson Tucker Blacklidge and Henry Z. Tucker.
He was reared at Warren, Arkansas and graduated from Monticello High School in 1953. In 1957, he graduated from Arkansas A & M College, now the University of Arkansas at Monticello, where his fraternity was Phi Lambda Chi.
He began his career as an accountant with the Texas Company, later Texaco and served in their offices in Odessa, Texas; Hobbs, New Mexico and Lovington, New Mexico. In 1973, he returned to Arkansas to supervise farming activities for his wife's family at Snow Lake and led the incorporation of these interest into Britt Farms, Inc. In 1993, he entered employment with First National Bank of Phillips County at Helena and later still was in charge of group sales for Sam's Town Casino at Tunica, Mississippi.
He was a past board member of Laconia Levee District, Helena Regional Medical Center, Helena/Phillips County Chamber of Commerce and Helena Country Club. He was a longtime member of Elaine Methodist Church.
Mr. Tucker is survived by his loving wife, Jamie Britt Tucker, whom he married on June 22, 1958; a daughter, Leslie Tucker Murphy and her husband, Michael Shawn Murphy of Jenks, Oklahoma; two granddaughters, Emily Elizabeth Murphy of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Madeline Payne Murphy of Hermitage, Pennsylvania and a sister, Sylvia Tucker Horton of San Antonio, Texas.
Graveside services will be Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Maple Hill Cemetery in Helena, Arkansas.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, Arkansas Children's Hospital, the University of Arkansas at Monticello or a charity of the donor's choice.

When I look at James’ picture, I think of the young “Sonny Boy†I used to know as my first cousin. He and Jamie were a team and he was loved by everyone he knew at Arkansas A& M. Aunt Lorraine and he were fast friends as Mother and son. They loved each other dearly. He loved you, Jamie, with all his heart.

Very sorry Jamie and Leslie. Uncle James was an amazing person and I have so many childhood memories of his humor, good nature, and general joy of life. I can hear his voice in my head right now.
