of Marianna, AR
June 12, 1927 - April 4, 2023
Lula Kathryn Carman Jacks was born June 12, 1927 in Pryor, Oklahoma. She graduated from Adair High School in 1942 at the age of 14 and entered Oklahoma A & M (OK State) at the age of 15. Katy married John Jacks of Marianna on November, 1948, where they made Marianna their only home. Ms. Katy, as most people called her, became dedicated and proficient in the insurance business where she served about 50 years until her retirement.
Katy loved Marianna and made many friends over the years. She had a special passion for her church, The First United Methodist of Marianna. She was known to squeeze many a dime with her beloved friends of her Bridge Club. Katy often expressed her love and appreciation for the 19 years she was able to share with two of her grandchildren, Porter and Connie Phelps, growing up right next door to her home on Crystal Lake. She would often say to her son-in-law, ''Why would we want to live any place else? We already live in paradise.''
Katy leaves her son, Wendy Jacks (wife, Elaine) of Palm Harbor, FL; daughter, Carmen (husband, Butch) of Marianna; grandchildren, Porter Phelps (wife, Wendie) of Garden Plain, KS, Connie Cline (husband, Adam) of Louisville, KY and Ashley Alexis (husband, Robertson) of Chicago, IL, Treyce Jacks (wife, Keshia) of Austintown, OH; her great grandchildren, Grayson and Kathryn Cline, Mason, Caroline and Maggie Phelps and Luci Alexis.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; youngest son, Hugh and one sister.
Many thanks to Joanna Burns, who served diligently as our caregiver; the staff of Patient's Choice Hospice for their kindness in care and new friendships and also the precious friendship of Lonibeth Vondran.
Ms. Katy requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, 59 S. Poplar St. Marianna, AR 72360

So sad to hear about your mom. She was a beautiful person. We will keep your family in our prayers. We are going to be out of the country Tuesday and will not be at the funeral but will certainly be thinking of you. Mrs Katy came to visit us at our house in Jonesboro a couple of years after we moved here and had such a wonderful visit!
