of Marshall, AR
September 22, 1944 - March 28, 2023
Frederick DeWolfe Whitelaw, age 78, of Marshall, Arkansas passed from this life on Tuesday, March 28th, 2023 at Highland Court in Marshall. He was born in Brooksville, Florida on September 22nd, 1944 to Frederick De Wolfe Whitelaw Jr. and Audrey Alice Bowman Whitelaw.
Fred said someone once told him, "you love people and you like things". Fred truly loved his family, his church family and his friends. He loved to travel on an open road, in a pick-up truck with a new destination and a new adventure ahead. One of his favorite pastimes was reading, especially an old paperback western. He enjoyed working with his hands, building or tearing things down. Fred also liked to teach others how to work. But above all of these things, Fred loved the Lord and the Lord's church, the Church of Christ. He began preaching in his teens and preached until he was physically unable. He preached locally and held gospel meetings in many states. Fred wrote thirty-seven Bible Study workbooks which are published by Gospel Light Publishing. His unfulfilled desire was to write one more. Fred would want to be remembered as a preacher of the Gospel, a teacher of the Word and a faithful servant of God.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years, Joyce Grice Whitelaw of Marshall; his children, Alma Lois Whitelaw of Brooklyn, NY, Rebecca Joyce Whitelaw Struble (Ryan) of Aledo, IL, Sage DeWolfe Whitelaw of Marshall, Rachel Whitelaw Cole of Springfield, MO and Foy Wallace Whitelaw (Kelsey) of Marshall; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and one on the way; his siblings, Leona Roberts (Henry) of Lakeland, FL, Albert Marion Whitelaw (Sheila) of Floral City, FL and David Clay Whitelaw (Karen) of Lecanto, FL and many extended family, church family and friends.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Audrey Whitelaw and siblings, Titus Byron Whitelaw, Thomas Edwin "Tommy" Whitelaw, Timothy Ray Whitelaw and Charles Richard "Nick" Whitelaw.
Memorial services for Fred will be 2:30 PM Sunday, April 16th, 2023 at the Grandview Church of Christ with Bro. Foy Whitelaw officiating. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Just received word that Fred had passed on.
My condolences to the family. I’m sure he is missed. He was a great classmate and teammate (varsity football) at Citrus High School in Inverness, Fl.
Praying for continued strength from God Almighty to all the family. You are loved beyond measure! I am sad for your loss but glad to know where Bro. Fred is resting in the arms of Jesus. Just learned about his passing and needed to let you know I am continually praying for each one of you. Fred was an amazing preacher of the gospel and when thinking of him I remember a definition he gave in a sermon about what is “faithfulâ€! He said it was simply being full of faith so I think of him as that, just full of faith . I was always encouraged by his memorization of scriptures and his ability to tie them together with his message. Thank you all for your faithfulness and blessings of being joined together as a family both physically and spiritually.
Love you all,
Benton Jr.

We are so sorry to hear this. May God give you comfort.
My condolences to all the family. Brother Fred was a mentor and friend. I listened to many of his sermons and spent a lot of good times in conversation. A man of great talent and a man with an intellectual curiosity beyond the ordinary. Possibly had the finest skill I ever witnessed when it came to quoting the Bible. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord." Brother Fred labored much in the fields of the Lord.
We are so sorry for your loss you are in our hearts and prayer

I will miss my big friend, he taught me many things about life and the Bible. I’ve sat many hours listening to his stories which I loved dearly. I loved helping my friend when he became unable to do things on his own. Our relationship was special for that I will forever be grateful. His last words to me was “ I love you deeply “. I hope you are flying your highest now my big friend. Enjoy the place you’ve worked your entire life to get to. Your space will never be replaced here on earth or in my heart.
Sage, Foy, and families,
