of North Little Rock, AR
December 16, 1932 - March 20, 2023
Elizabeth Catherine Scesniak of North Little Rock, AR, went to be with the Lord March 20, 2023. She was a beloved wife, mother, friend, and creative artist. She never met a stranger.
Elizabeth was born in Chicago, IL, on December 16, 1932, and lived an incredible 90 years of life. Just shy of 21 years of age, she married the love of her life, Eugene, who passed away this past December. What a memorable fairy tale romance that they grew up across the street from each other. Mom would bring a date home only to find Eugene eating chocolate cake in her mother's kitchen.
Over the course of 69 years of marriage, Elizabeth set up homes from coast to coast- New Hampshire to California, everywhere in between and even the Philippines as Dad was in the Air Force.
Elizabeth had so many unbelievable talents! Most famously, she was known as ''The Gourd Lady'' transforming gourds into treasured collections, mostly Santas. Featured in QVC in 1999, she proudly sold 700 Easter Bunny gourds in less than two minutes on national TV.
Elizabeth was a loving, generous woman to family being her husband, daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, relatives, loyal and loving caregiver Jayla Jones, neighbors, and friends. She always took meals to any one in need, was very involved at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and spent hours volunteering at many other organizations. The other love of her life was Carmel, her therapy dog, that had tricks galore and brought smiles to many!
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Adele Trojan, her older brother, Robert Trojan, and her husband, Eugene Scesniak. She is survived by a sister in-law Louise Pierce, her daughters Dr. Debra Seznik-Thomas and husband Ted, Diane Walla and husband Greg, grandchildren- Joe Thomas and wife Taylor (expecting their first child this coming May), Jake Thomas, Lane Walla, and Waverly Walla.
Heaven welcomes you, Elizabeth. What a life, what a wonderful wife, mother, and friend now to be reunited with Eugene, your beloved husband!
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 29, at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church., Fr. John Wakube will be the Celebrant. Committal service will follow at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery with a lunch reception afterwards at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Hall.
Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Owens Funeral Home in North Little Rock.
I met Liz at one of IC's arts and crafts shows where she displayed so many gourds. She and Gene were such kind and gentle people, and they never met a stranger. They both will be missed by many at IC.
I met Gene and Elizabeth at the LRAFB Thrift Shop when they came in to open up an account to consign items. Always loved to see them and somehow or other she nicknamed me Sparky. She gave the most wonderful hugs and kisses. My best day with her was when we talked about Psalm 23. I will truly miss her but I have faith that Heaven gained a special angel. Sending prayers to the family.
To the Scesniak Family : We had the honor and pleasure of getting to know Elizabeth and Gene during their years at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Little Rock. They were a wonderful inseparable couple who were always fun to be around. They were very knowledgeable in many areas and we benefited from their wisdom. We missed them greatly when they moved to IC Parish. Now Elizabeth and Gene are eternally reunited after a short time apart. May Elizabeth Rest in the peace of Christ with Gene and all of our Loved Ones who have ascended to Heaven. Reg Rogers St. Edward's Parish (Little Rock)
Mr. Gene and Mrs. Elizabeth were the first to welcome us to the neighborhood as our house was being built next door to theirs. They saw our family grow and were there to celebrate with us many special occasions. Mrs. Elizabeth even did face painting at one of our kids birthday parties. The kids enjoyed her teaching them her talents. They will both be greatly missed but will forever be in our hearts.
I first met Elizabeth in 2008 when she called about an article in the newpaper featuring our therapy dog team. After Carmel completed the training program and became a certified therapy dog, Elizabeth and Gene joined our team when we went to visit people in nursing homes and various faciliites. They always wanted to show others how Carmel could do tricks so we declared her our "Opening Act". Elizabeth was a kind and gentle person and we miss both she and Gene as well as Carmel.
Sending love and prayers to you Deb in this time of loss.
Elizabeth had a heart of gold. I met Elizabeth when she taught arts and crafts for St. Edwards Christian Mothers Sodality. She was full of knowledge and fun. We had great talks together as well. Gene was wonderful as well. I will miss them both. May they both Rest In Eternal Peace.
To my loving sister-law Betty. Will miss you, we have lots of wonderful memories in our years together.
Love you,
Lonna
Praying for the Lord’s comfort and peace during this sad time. Sending love to the family.
