of Yellville, AR
February 19, 1925 - January 12, 2023
Berneta Davenport, age 97, of Yellville, Arkansas passed away Thursday January 12, 2023 in Mountain Home, Arkansas.
Berneta Yarbrough Davenport was born in Tomahawk, Arkansas to Robert Monroe Yarbrough and Viola Strunk Yarbrough on February 19, 1925. She was so very proud to be a Tomahawk girl and to have grown up there with her siblings and many friends.
She attended school at both Bruno and St. Joe, graduating from St. Joe at only sixteen years old. She taught at Baker Springs for one year, where she rode to the school on horseback. By that time, WWII had taken many young men overseas, so she and her sister, Bonnie moved to Wichita, Kansas to work for Boeing Aircraft. They were real "Rosie the Riveters"!
Returning to Searcy county, Berneta married Holland Davenport on June 21, 1947 and they had two children, Monty and Holly. She loved her children with an unshakeable love, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In the early 1960s, Berneta and Retha Robison owned their own business, The Fabric Shop, where they tailor made clothes for men and women in the community. She later worked at "Zula's" and a few other local businesses, including a Montgomery Ward that she helped open and manage. She was eventually employed by Ahrens' Clinic, where she worked happily until she was eighty years old. She loved Richard and Bob Ahrens as if they were her own.
She enjoyed being around people, going to Gulf Shores with her siblings and cousins, watching her cows and cats and driving anywhere anytime. If you saw her out and about, you were sure to be greeted with a smile.
Berneta is survived by her children, Monty (Johnnie Ruth) Davenport, Holly (Mark) Edwards; grandchildren, Cable (Juliana) Davenport, Casey (Karah) Davenport, Cale (Natalie) Davenport, Rachel (Zach) Proctor; great-grandchildren, Jack and Alice Davenport, Turner and Oliver Davenport, Townes Davenport, Holland Proctor and baby girl, Proctor, on the way. She also leaves behind her faithful friend and loving companion Dalo Dixon.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, her husband of 53 years Holland Davenport and four siblings, Travis Yarbrough, Joe Yarbrough, Bonnie Yarbrough Sullivan and J.C. Yarbrough.
Visitation for Berneta will be 2:00-4:00 pm Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Roller-Burns Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Monday, January 16, 2023 at Roller-Burns Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kevin Duffy officiating.
Interment will follow at De Soto Cemetery near Yellville.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House, 811 Burnett Drive, Mountain Home, AR 72653.
