of Leslie, AR
September 24, 1967 - January 8, 2023
Harlie Russell Treat Jr, age 55, of Leslie, Arkansas passed from this life on Sunday, January 8th, 2023 at his home. He was born in Fort Benning, Georgia on September 24th, 1967 to Harlie Russell Treat and Mary Lee Shepherd Treat.
Harlie graduated with honors from Leslie High School in 1985. After high school, he worked at the saw mill in Leslie for many years and did some tree planting before deciding to attend college. He was accepted to the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville in 1992. During the summer breaks while attending college, he worked for the Arkansas Highway Department in Boone County. Harlie Jr. graduated from college in 1996 with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation, he accepted a job with the Federal Highway Department, working in various parts of the United States on federal lands, building bridges and other structures. He officially retired in 2022 after 25 years of service. Harlie Jr. was a member of the Nubbin Hill Community Church and was on the board for the Nubbin Hill Cemetery. He was also a life member of the NRA. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing horseshoes, telling stories and discussing the news of the day. Harlie also enjoyed spending time outdoors, deer hunting and fishing. He enjoyed watching Razorback football and basketball, as well as watching the Pittsburg Steelers. He was particularly happy when the Steelers beat the Dallas Cowboys, as he enjoyed ribbing his mom about it, as she was an avid Cowboy's fan. Harlie was a good cook and was well known for making his famous meatballs at both the Nubbin Hill Church dinners and the Nubbin Hill Decorations. He loved to garden and made salsa from the tomatoes and peppers he had grown. Harlie Jr doted on his two cats, Ruger and Slayer, who were his constant companions.
Harlie is preceded in death by his grandparents, William Luther Treat, Eula Treat, Harry Shepherd and Helen Shepherd; his father, Harlie Treat; uncle, Hubert Treat; aunt, Corine Boyd; brother-in-law, Jimmie Ragland; cousin, Mark Drewry and his best friend, Doug Lemmonds.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Treat of Leslie; sisters, Sandra (Warren) Hill of Leslie and Amanda Treat of North Little Rock; nephew, David (Tiffany) Ragland of Marshall; great-nephew, Ashton Ragland of Marshall; great-niece, Autumn Ragland of Marshall; aunt, Cratie Treat of Leslie; uncle, James Shepherd of Leslie and numerous cousins, other family members and friends, who will deeply miss him.
Funeral services for Harlie Jr will be 1:00 PM Friday, January 13th, 2023 at Roller-Coffman Chapel in Marshall, Arkansas with Bro. Joe Dale Williams and Bro. Greg Lovett officiating. Burial will be in Nubbin Hill Cemetery. Bearers will be David Ragland, Warren Hill, Tim Drewry, Corby Lard, Zack Treat and Rodney Treat. Honorary bearer will be Phil Gassoway.
I was fortunate to go to school and graduate with Harlie; he and I shared several classes, and a crazy assortment of memories from those classes.
We might not have shared many mutual goals and ideals, but he was a great classmate and friend. He comes from good folks, and I am proud to have known him, and be able to claim family ties.
His passing came as a shock, though I knew he'd been ill. I guess we just never expect it. I'll never forget this special young man, and our family sends our condolences, tears, and big hugs to his sweet mama and the rest of his family.
