L. Clinton Woods

of Alpena, AR

March 12, 1943 - January 3, 2023

L. Clinton Woods of Alpena, Arkansas, went to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at, Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born on March 12, 1943, to Reverend George Clinton and Lois Virginia (Wallace) Woods in Van Nuys, California. He was a graduate of Heber Springs (AR) High School, class of 1961.

On December 28, 1963, Clinton married the love of his life, C. Denease Richardson, at the Alpena Assembly of God Church in Boone County Arkansas. Together they had two daughters, five grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters.

Clinton's parents were Assembly of God pastors, and he continued to attend an Assembly of God church throughout his life.

ln 2001, after 28 years, Clinton retired from the Alcoa Aluminum Company. He loved the farm life and being around cattle which led to him starting his second career. ln 2004, he became a full-time cattle farmer, which he continued until the very end with the help of his son-in-law and grandsons. He loved to talk about his cows and continued to tell the medical staff about them on his last day.

Clinton enjoyed fishing and hunting and shared his love for fishing with his grandkids. He always had a story of "the one that got away'' if he ever came home empty-handed. He had told so many of these stories that when he returned from one hunting trip, his wife and daughters did not believe him when he had actually killed two deer with one shot.

Clinton loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed taking any of his grandkids who would go with him to the farm. This led to a couple of his grandsons following in his footsteps as cattle farmers.

Clinton enjoyed shopping. He could outshop almost anyone and be always looking for a bargain. The last few years he loved to shop for his great-granddaughters and picked out many of their gifts himself. He loved every minute he could spend with his little girls and always had snacks on hand for their visits.

Clinton is survived by his wife of 59 years, Denease, of the home; two daughters, Tonia Horn and husband Kevin of Sherwood, Arkansas, and Melissa Barnard and husband Scott of Green Forest; five grandchildren, Chris Barnard and wife Stephanie of Bentonville, Hunter Barnard and wife Jennifer of Alpena, Katheryn Cole and husband Christian of Ennis, Texas, Brady Barnard and wife Payton of Berryville, and Emily Horn of Sherwood; two great-granddaughters, Kinley Barnard and Eleanor Barnard; one sister, Brenda Zermatten and husband Martin of North Little Rock; two sisters-in-law, Brenda Bell of Green Forest and Pam Richardson of Harrison; two aunts, Virginia Hale and Dorothy Sims, both of California; and many extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Ervin and Jetton Richardson; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Clark; and a brother-in-law, Blaine Richardson.

Visitation was held Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home with the funeral immediately following. Reverend Clint Powers officiated. Burial was at Alpena Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to support high school graduates furthering their education in agriculture by donating to (checks payable to) The Boone County Cattlemen's Scholarship Foundation at Equity Bank, 200 E. Ridge Ave., Harrison, AR 72601.

So sorry about Clinton. You have our deepest sympathy. Clinton was one of my best friends from many years ago. I have many fond memories of him mostly centered around the time he and I and a couple of other fellas from Heber Springs “batched” together in Little Rock. We ate a lot of chicken pot pies together. Not because we liked chicken pot pies that much but because it was all we knew how to cook. Although I haven’t seen him for these many years (since your wedding day) I have thought about him quite often. Just wish we had stayed in touch. I’l hang on to the memories. J. D. and Fern Todd

I am saddened by the loss of my nephew. But I have so many happy, sweet memories, especially of his childhood as a young girl 11 years old was so excited when he came to my parents house after his birth, and seeing him grow up as such a wonderful young man and the wonderful family he has.
May God give his family strength for each day and peace and may they be blessed

I knew Clinton from his time in Heber Springs while his parents were pastors at First Assembly. I have kept in touch with his sister, Brenda. My sincere sympathy in the loss of a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother. May God continue to be your peace during this time of grief.

OFFER SINCERE CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY. MAY GOD GIVE YOU COMFORT AND PEACE AT THIS DIFFICULT TIME. I DID NOT KNOW HIM BUT DID KNOW TONYA. I FOUND YOU CAN TELL ALOT ABOUT A PARENT BY WATCHING THEIR CHILDREN. TONYA IS DEVOTED TO FAMILY, RESPECTS OTHERS, AND DEVOTED TO HER FAITH. I FEEL THESE QUALITIES CAME FROM HER PARENTS. MAY GOD SHOWER HIS BLESSINGS ON THE FAMILY.
