of Marshall, AR
February 9, 1933 - November 3, 2022
Melvin Ray Honeycutt, age 89, of Marshall, Arkansas passed from this life on Thursday, November 3rd, 2022 at his home. He was born in Marion County, Arkansas on February 9th, 1933 to William Benjamin Steven Honeycutt and Beulah Jane McClanahan Honeycutt.
Melvin was a Korean War Veteran of the United States Army. He was happy to be stationed in Alaska for part of his tour. After returning home to Lee County, Arkansas he married Vivian Wallis and they farmed on land that was owned by Vivian's parents until they moved to Polk County. He worked at a lumber mill until he was disabled. Although Melvin was never a father, he tried to teach his nephews the ways of a woodsman of old; hunting, trapping, fishing, camping out and living off the land. Because he never had the opportunity to get an education, Melvin insisted that his nephews did and when graduation times came for those boys, no one was happier then Melvin. He enjoyed reading westerns, watching cartoons and sci-fi on TV and working in his puzzle books.
Survivors include his siblings, Harvey Honeycutt, Obeta Wyckoff and Marie Spradlin and numerous nephews and nieces.
Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Beulah Honeycutt; his wife, Vivian Wallis Honeycutt who passed away in 2011; two siblings, J.C. Honeycutt and Louise Honeycutt Riddle and sister-in-law, Joyce Honeycutt.
A memorial service will be held at Elm Springs Cemetery in Marion County, Arkansas where Melvin will be laid to rest with Military Honors. Time and dates are pending at this time.
