of Clinton, AR
December 7, 1924 - October 7, 2022
Fondly known as Marge, Marguerite Roland was born on December 3, 1924 in Buffalo, New York and died October 7, 2022 in Clinton, Arkansas.
After graduating from Amherst High School in Buffalo, she served her country during World War II by joining the Navy as a WAVE, earning the rank of Yeoman 3rd class and was honorably discharged in 1946. While serving in Bremerton Washington, she met the fun and charming Matt Gilmore. They married in 1946 and were married for fifty-one years until his death in 1998.
They had four children, all sons. Ken, Matt, Mark and Robert. As a Navy family, they traveled to many duty stations together, Boston, Beaumont, New Orleans, Pensacola, Guam, Amagansett, New York, Midway Island, Bellingham and Adak, Alaska.
Our mom was amazing. She was strong. She supported her husband through Alzheimer's at home initially and at different nursing homes when they had difficulty caring for dad. She was strong enough to mother her sons through all the challenges of rearing four boys while frequently moving, as all Navy families do. Mom was also kind; kind enough to not wring our respective necks which we frequently deserved more than once or twice. As we visited Mom in the nursing home recently where she lived for the last ten years, many residents and staff told us how kind she was to them. Much of her strength and kindness was developed during her time as a child, during the Depression in the 1930's, guided by her mother, Marie and their commitment to their Catholic Faith. She was a member of St. Jude's parish and was heavily involved in parish activities, serving as Eucharistic Minister and Sacristan. She was especially committed to supplying children's books to young readers. Mom loved to read, even to the point of getting physical therapy so that she could hold larger books!
Mom was amazing!
She is survived by her sons, Ken, Matt, Mark and Robert Gilmore. Daughters-in-law, Jan, Olivia, Karen, Sandy and Velkis, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mom's life was enriched and extended by the tireless dedication of her daughter-in-law, Olivia Gilmore, who is also kind and strong.
Visitation services are 5:00pm - 7:00pm Monday. October 10, 2022 at Roller McNutt Funeral Home with Rosary at 5:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial is Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 11:00am. Interment will be at Culpepper Cemetery.

Dear Family,
In my years of growing up she was the best neighbor a girl could have. She was kind and just a blessing. Marge was more than a neighbor she was family. My heart is broke. My fondest memory is she always waved as she passed by and I always felt special. May God give you comfort and peace in the days to come. Love to you all .
I had the privilege of meeting Mrs. Marge a couple of years ago when the family honored her birthday with a very generous donation to the Clinton Elementary Library. I have gotten to visit with her the past year as my Mom is a resident of Ozark Health nursing home. Mom would tell me about her sons when they came to visit. Mrs. Marge was always smiling and very pleasant to visit with. She will be missed and prayers for the family.
I don’t recall meeting this fine woman but her sons, Ken and Matt, are reflections of parenting of the highest quality. Reading her obit speaks loudly of a full life well-lived. Peace to her family and lasting memories of good times ………
She was such a kind loving person that I greatly admired for the past 35 years. She will be missed by many. So sorry for the families involved. She was a great lady.
Mrs. Marge was a Christian role model for me-she never failed to brighten my day and offer me her beautiful smile. I have been blessed by knowing her. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

She was such a great lady and we loved her dearly! Our heartfelt sympathy for all of you.
Loved Aunt Marge and so sad that she has left us. Lots and lots of good memories when we were all younger. Would be there with you if I had not moved to Kansas and recovering from knee surgery done Thursday. Peace and comfort to all of you.
Soooo sorry for your loss. We are praying for you & your family.
So sorry to hear of Aunt Margie's passing. She and Uncle Kenny were always very kind to The Johnsons. When we were growing up, our social life was centered around the Gilmore clan and as far as I know, she was the last of that great generation. Aunt Margie was there when Momma and Daddy passed even though I'm sure the trip was hard for her to make considering her advanced age. I pray that there is a big Gilmore reunion going on right now and she and Uncle Kenny are together again. God bless you guys at this difficult time!
