of Scranton, AR
September 30, 1936 - October 2, 2022
James Clyde Thompson, 86, of Scranton, AR passed away at home on October 2, 2022. He was born at home on September 30, 1936 in Corley, Arkansas, the oldest son of the late James J. and Vera (Anderson) Thompson.
James was a devoted member and elder of the First Baptist Church of Scranton until the day he died and served for many years as a Deacon and Treasurer. He taught his children how to walk with the Lord, be of service to others and never lose sight of the hope of heaven.
James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather and friend and always put others first. He had a long and storied career from his teen years as a carnival dare-devil and welter-weight boxer, to his later years as a skilled machinist constructing the Apollo Lunar lander, excavator and farmer.
James loved to tinker in his machine shop and could fix literally anything. Like his father before him, James could make any memory come alive. He loved to reminisce with family and friends about his early exploits, cars he had owned and fish that got away. James will be missed beyond measure by those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three of his siblings, Betty Moore, Douglas Thompson and Dorothea Hamilton, as well as his devoted wife of 59 years, Ellenore Christensen Thompson and beloved daughter, Teresa (Teri) Clampitt.
He is survived by his dedicated son, David Thompson (and wife, Elena) of Scranton, AR; daughter, Virginia Ford (and husband, Courteney) and grandsons, Sam Brooks and Jack Raney of Cary, NC; granddaughter, Sarah Collinsworth of Tulsa, OK; granddaughter, Crystal Dobbs of Prosper, TX and great-grandchildren, Chase Collinsworth, Zane Collinsworth, Jadon Dobbs, Madison Dobbs and Ella Dobbs.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Roller Funeral Home in Paris.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Scranton with Rev. Carl Mason officiating. Burial will follow in Corley Cemetery near Paris under the direction Roller Funeral Home in Paris.
Pallbearers will be Courteney Ford, Sam Brooks, Jack Raney, Zane Collinsworth, George Harrison, Spencer Cox, Chris Knoles and Stephen Foster.
