Delbert James Sawyer Jr. (Chief), born December 6, 1960, to Delbert Sawyer, Sr. and Fran Sawyer in Brooklyn, New York, passed away from cancer on August 1, 2022.
He joined the Navy in 1981. He found a passion and love for the Navy. With the love and support of his wife, he made the Navy a career. As a proud veteran, he retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 2005.
He married the love of his life, Joyce Ann Jones on August 24, 1980. He was a loving husband and father who loved fishing and camping with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Bob Sawyer. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joyce; Sons, Steven Sawyer, Delbert Sawyer III and wife, Sarah Sawyer; grandchildren, Daniel Sawyer, Abigail Sawyer and Nicholas Sawyer; younger brother, Steve Sawyer and wife, Trish Sawyer and their 2 children. Bob Sawyer's wife, Leslie Sawyer and their 3 children. Harold Jones, Carl Jones and 2 children. Gerald Jones and wife, Barbra Jones and their 2 children.
Visitation will be at 12pm Monday, August 8, 2022, with funeral service following at 1pm at Roller McNutt Funeral Home, 115 S Broadview St, Greenbrier, AR 72058. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Quitman.
