Lafayette (Lafay) Hawkins, age 85, of Benton passed away on June 6, 2022. Lafayette was born in Marianna, Arkansas to Raleigh and Maurine Hawkins on October 21, 1936. He was married to his loving wife, Cindy, and they have spent 44 happy years together. Lafayette graduated with a degree in Postal Management and spent 35 years working for the United States Postal Service. Lafayette was a veteran and served honorably in the U.S. Air National Guard. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church and enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, music, being a singer/songwriter and playing in many different bands in the 60s and 70s. He wrote and recorded several songs. Lafayette served as his church's bass player and gave guitar lessons to dozens of young people in his church. He considered the many young musicians he taught to be his greatest accomplishment as they would serve in churches around the country.
Lafayette is preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Norman Randal Hawkins, Betty May McCollum and Anne Ruth Gardner. Lafayette is survived in death by his wife, Cindy Hawkins; sons, Courtney Neal Hawkins and Michael Shane Hawkins; daughters, Jennifer Lynn Jones and Audri Beth McNeal; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM on June 8, 2022, at Victory Baptist Church, 5364 Highway 67, Benton, AR. Funeral Services are to be held at 2:00 P.M. on June 9, 2022 at Victory Baptist Church with Pastor Brandon Graham officiating. Burial will follow at New Summit Cemetery.

So sorry about the loss of Lafay! It is good to know that he is in the arms of his Savior! This does not keep us from missing our loved one but it gives us the peace we shall reunite with them one day!
