Eva Jo Dillahunty Pouncey, died at age 87, in her home at Simsboro, Arkansas (Hughes) on Monday, March 14, 2022. She was born September 9, 1934 in Mississippi County Arkansas (Osceola). Her parents were Hugh Tracy Dillahunty, Eva Montague Dillahunty and Delma Dillahunty.
She was preceded in death by her parents; aunt, Josephine Montague ''Auntie''; and one brother, Hugh Monty Dillahunty.
Eva's family moved to Hughes, Arkansas in the mid 1940's where she attended school and the First United Methodist Church.
She married Bert C Pouncey, III in Hughes, Arkansas on July 28, 1954. They lived in several different places during their early married life while her husband served in the United States Coast Guard. They eventually settled in West Memphis, Arkansas shortly before 1960 where Eva was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Junior Auxillary and the Hoe and Grow Garden Club.
She worked outside the home as secretary to Principal, BJ Kinard at Dabbs Elementary School in West Memphis, from 1969-1972. She and BJ became lifelong friends.
The family moved to her husband's family home on the family farm in Simsboro, Arkansas in 1972, where Bert took up farming. Eva was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband and sons on the farm driving trucks and tractors when needed.
She worshipped at the First United Methodist Church in Hughes where she was an active member for the rest of her life. She became a member of The Spade and Dream Garden Club in Hughes. Aside from her family and serving God, her two passions were gardening and sewing. She won awards for her beautiful and unique flower arrangements. As an expert seamstress, she made clothes, costumes and draperies for her family and others. Her work was both beautiful and flawless. Eva was a devout Christian with great faith in the Lord. She was hard working and humble. She was a giver, always selfless and full of love and forgiveness. She touched many lives with her quiet, caring ways.
She is survived by her husband of almost 68 years, Bert C. Pouncey, III, of Simsboro, AR, three sons, Bert C. Pouncey, IV (Pam) of Hughes, AR, Hugh Dillahunty Pouncey (Carolyn) of Proctor, AR, Robert Holmes Pouncey (Michelle) of Hughes, AR, and one daughter, Laura Lee Pouncey of Proctor, AR; 8 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Fairy Ann Owens (Charlie) of Hughes, AR, Delma ''Butch'' Murray (Steve) of Hughes, AR; two brothers, Kuhron Meurrier (Bett) of West Memphis, AR, Sam Tracy Dillahunty (Carol) of Hughes, AR; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, March 21, 2022, from 1:00-2:00 pm. The memorial service will also take place in Roller-Citizens Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 pm, March 21, 2022.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Hughes United Methodist Church in Hughes, AR, at P.O. Box 326, Hughes, AR 72348

Eva Jo will be greatly missed. I had known her all of my life. She was a beam of sunshine and a very sweet, loving and caring person. Our prayers go for her family that God will give them 'his' peace and comfort to carry them through this valley as they grieve for their loved one.

Mrs. and Mr. Pouncey were/are great people and mentors to their kids and friends of the kids. Bert and his siblings and I were friends. Mrs. Pouncey was always so sweet to all of us. Prayers for Mr. Pouncey. Loved of the Pouncey family, Mr. Bert's and Mr. Robert's.

I am so sorry to hear of the Eva Jo’s death. I remember the first time I met her while at church at Hughes Methodist. Many, many fond memories of her. She was a lovely lady and will be sorely missed.
