Zelda Mae (Jones) Ward, 95, of Quitman, AR passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Superior Health and Rehab in Conway, AR. She was born July 1, 1926 on Beckett Mountain (Mt. Vernon, Arkansas) to the late Clay Ridley Jones and Mary Ella (Cook) Jones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Marvin Junior Ward, two sons, Marvin Clayton Ward and Donald Ray Ward, one granddaughter, Shannon Ward, two brothers, W. D. Jones and Orlan Jones, and two sisters, Betty Nash and Dorothy Rigdon.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons and one daughter and their spouses, Pat and Christa Ward of Hensley, AR, David and Karla Ward of Quitman, AR, and Donna and Michael Harris of Conway, AR, two daughters-in-law, Ann Ward of Vilonia, AR and Suellen Ward of Guy, AR. Ms. Zelda also leaves one sister, Rebecca Garrison of Bella Vista, AR, and sister-in-law, Venita Jones, of St. Louis, MO., 7 grandsons, Stanley Ward, Larry Parish (Stacy), Jimmy John Ward (Nikki), Jason Ward (Tabitha), Cade Ward (Amber), Brian Ward (Mona), and Jed Ward (Deidra), 2 granddaughters, Cecilia Bunch (Brett) and Deana Barnard (Shawn),
several great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ms. Zelda was a member of the Church of Christ and attended White Oak Church of Christ as long as she was able.
Ms. Zelda was employed by The Glove Corporation in Heber Springs, AR and worked alongside her husband for 32 years until they both retired in 1988.
In her younger years, Ms. Zelda enjoyed growing a vegetable garden, quilting, and cooking for her family, especially making her Christmas candies. She also enjoyed watching college basketball, especially the Razorbacks and Duke.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Superior Health and Rehab and Kindred Hospice for their loving, compassionate care of our Mom.
Per Ms. Zelda's request, due to Covid, there will be no funeral service. General public visitation will be from 1:00pm until 5:00pm, Sunday, January 16, at Roller Funeral Home, Greenbrier, Arkansas. A private graveside service for immediate family will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with Jason Ward officiating.
Honorary pallbearers are Stanley Ward, Larry Parrish, Jimmy John Ward, Cade Ward, Brian Ward and Jed Ward.
It was my pleasure to have known her if only a short period of time that I have lived here in Quitman. She was a loving and kind person and it was my pleasure to make several visits along with my wife Elaine to visit and talk with her on many occasions. Her spirit is now with God in Heaven.
So sorry to lose this very sweet neighbor and friend.
