Joe Williams of Flippin, Arkansas passed away January 3, 2022 in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 78.
He was born on May 30, 1943 in Quitman, Arkansas to Troy Williams and Ruby Pettit Williams. Joe was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War where he served on the Mackenzie's Raders, B Troop, 3rd Squadron, 4th US Calvary, 25th Infantry Division as a tunnel rat from 1966-1967. He earned National Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart w/2nd Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal w/Bronze Star and Vietnam Campaign Medal w/Bronze Star w/''V'' Device. Joe also served on the Flippin Volunteer Fire Department. He joined the Fire Department in May of 1975 and was still on the active roster at the time of his death. He loved the fire service, enjoyed working with / training fellow firefighters and helped keep the Flippin community safe for over 43 years. Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his Harley, riding his side by side at Cloud 9, and spending time with friends and family.
Joe is survived by his wife, Monica Williams of Flippin, AR; 3 children: Roger (Shelly) Williams of Gassville, AR; Lisa (Jimmy) Chapman of Independence, MO; Randall Williams of Flippin, AR; an his 3 step-children: Robert (Derecca) Grayham of Harrison, AR; Chad (Amanda) Grayham of Russellville, AR; Keela Walters of Boone, IA and 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind 3 sisters: Elva Lou (Art) Helms, Alma Lea (George) Wells and Judy Briggs; 1 brother, Mike (Brenda) Williams; 1 sister-in-law, Debbie Williams and a host of nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Ruby Williams, sister Sue Hunter, brother Jim Williams, and nephew Chris ''Critter'' Williams.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 am with memorial service for Joe Williams at 11:30 am Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Roller-Burns Funeral Home Chapel in Yellville with Hershel Conley officiating.
I didn’t know Joe but I knew the person how could make Dody go with him anytime , he wouldn’t say where they where going . He would drive up to house and Dody was out the door without a word. Their bond was true blue. He is missed dearly! Go Rest In Peace Joe! Bless the family and those left behind.
Joe was the kind of man you wanted to have your back.

Rest In Peace Joe, you’ve earned an honorable position at the Lords table. Everyone in Flippin, the state of Arkansas and all of America owe you a huge debt of gratitude for your service and sacrifice. It’s been an honor to know you.
My dad and Joe had a special relationship that I’m certain only those that have experienced combat together can fully understand and appreciate. We can take comfort that they are reunited in Valhalla.

I met Joe fighting fire. And we fought a couple together. Men like Him don’t come around as often as they should.

Joe and I served together in the 1st Plt 3/4 Cav 25th ID He was a great soldier and was always there for anyone My Wife and I got to be with Joe & Monica at many of our Military Reunions and to visit them at there home WE got to meet many of his Family and Firemen Joe took us to a Aniique car show and I got to go and meet some of the other Town Folks He was my Best Friend and will be missed Greatly God continue to be with his Family Comrades and Friends
So sorry to hear this, I served with Joe in the same troop '66-'67, we were much younger then. Prayers for comfort and peace.
Joe was the best neighbor and friend anyone could have. He has family and many many friends who will forever miss him. Joe was one of a kind. Thank you for your service to our country, your life and your friendship.

Joe served in Vietnam with my dad Bill. He would come visit us when he was working for Ranger Boats and I would always remember him as Flippin Joe with the boats. He was a great guy and would always make me laugh. He will be missed. Thank you for your service Joe and thank you for being a good friend to my dad. RIP

From the time I married Joe's sister, he and I have always been buddies. I've always thought that he would someday be a Home-Town-Hero and I've admired his extra supply of courage that God gives to those rare individuals that He has chosen to be used in that way. Rest in peace, Brother Danny Joe!
