Dorothy Jean Marlar, 91, of Pinehurst, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2017, at Quail Haven Retirement Village in Pinehurst, NC.
Born in Harviell, Missouri, on December 31, 1925, Dorothy was the daughter of Henry Benjamin Johnson and Faye Blagg Johnson. She is survived by her son, Gary J. Marlar and his wife Claire of Pinehurst; a brother, John P. Johnson of Roseville, MI; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry E. Marlar; a son, Phillip H. Marlar; a brother, Leonard B. Johnson; and a sister, Kathryn E. Coons.
She moved to Pinehurst in 2007 from her home in England, AR, to be near her son's family. In England she was active in the First Methodist Church for over 50 years and retired from Arkansas Power and Light Company in 1985 after a 25-year career.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Quail Haven Inn for their kind and caring attention to Mrs. Marlar's needs in the final months of her life.
A memorial service and interment will be at Mulberry Cemetery, England, AR, at 11:00 a.m. on July 8, 2017.
