Joe Matthews, 79, of Weiner, passed away on May 3, 2017 at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro. He was born July 7, 1937 in Harrisburg. Joe graduated from Ozark Academy then spent four years in the U.S. Navy, before coming home to work on the family farm. In 1962, Joe married Daisy Senteney and together they built and operated the Weiner Fertilizer Company and NAPA store for 25 years. After retiring from the fertilizer business, Joe fulfilled a childhood dream of owning his own farm. When Joe was no longer able to farm, his son Scott took over the operation. Joe enjoyed duck hunting and gardening.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Geneva Matthews.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Daisy Senteney Matthews; son, Scott Matthews and his wife, Susan; Granddaughter, Megan Matthews and her fiancé, Allen Turner, all of Weiner; and his sister, Carol Blackwell of Kansas City, KS.
All family and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 4-7 pm at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home in Weiner. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Weiner Fire Department or the Weiner Ministerial Alliance.

Joe was indeed a good man, a true friend. We will always treasure the times shared with him, Daisy, Scott and family.
