Leonard John Sitzer, 96, of Weiner died Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House. He was born 1918 in Weiner to Joe and Elizabeth Sitzer. After serving in the United States Army, he began farming and dedicated 33 years to the Riceland Foods board of directors, 36 years to the Weiner Grain Dryer board and 12 years as president; 21 years to the Poinsett Production Credit Association and five years to the Farmers Supply Association board. In 2010, at the age of 92, Mr. Sitzer was inducted into the Arkansas Agriculture Hall of Fame. He was also an avid hunter and active life sponsor of Ducks Unlimited and life member of the National Wild Turkey Federation. He was named the Arkansas Wildlife Federation's Conservationist of the Year in 2008. Mr Sitzer also served on St. Bernard's Hospital Board.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Sitzer; a son, Timothy (Shelly) Sitzer of Weiner; a daughter, Nickla Bodeker of Bono; six grandchildren Tara Bodeker, Justin Bodeker, Adam Bodeker, Erin Trotter, Caleb Sitzer and Lora Sullins; and eight great-grandchildren, Fowler Trotter, Scarlett Trotter, Eden Bodeker, Troy Bodeker, Luke Bodeker, Ella Bodeker, Sam Sullins and Ray Sullins..
He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Elizabeth Sitzer; and five brothers.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm, Monday, April 7 at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home Chapel in Weiner.
Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday at Walker Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Justin Bodeker, Adam Bodeker, Corey Trotter, Bear Craft, Jordan Sitzer and Toby Sutton. Honorary bearers will be Kaneaster Hodges Jr., Dr. Gilford Dudley, Pete Traynom, Steve MacMahan, Phillip Craft, Lynn Garner, Raymond Phillips, David Howard, Jimmy Mack, Gary Sitzer, Mark Kieffer, Patrick Sullins, Caleb Sitzer, Bill Priddy and James Duke.
