October 2, 1926 - February 27, 2014
Peter Dominick Marciszewski of Memphis passed away late Thursday, February 27,2014
Ski, as he was affectionately known to friends and family, was born on October 2, 1926 to the late Dominick and Gladys Marciszewski in Medina, NY. In 1945 Ski joined the US Navy and travelled through the Pacific, raising hell as a Sea Bee. In 1954 he married a young woman named Bobbie Ann Griffin and mostly settled down, later having two daughters, Pamella and Paula.
Peter D. continued his Navy career until his retirement in 1966 but, being ever restless and annoying to his wife at home all day he became a mail carrier with the USPS. His 33 year stint with the postal service allowed him to enjoy the outdoors and to make many friends on his routes, two activities he very much enjoyed. Even after his second retirement he rarely stopped working and volunteering in the community, always looking for opportunities to meet and help people, whether it was with the Shelby County Sheriff's Department checking on home-bound seniors, or helping at the local senior centers.
Ski loved life and befriending all the people he met. He loved fishing, he loved bowling, he loved his wife, his daughters, and all of the grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved being there for every event in their lives. He was always a man when he needed to be, but was always a kid at heart. He never missed a chance to joke, pull a prank or play a game with his constant collection of gadgets and toys. He will be missed by all who ever knew him.
Peter D is survived by his wife Bobbie of Memphis, two daughters, Pamella Ellis of Horseshoe Lake, AR and Paula Neal of Maryville, TN and their families; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren and eight siblings.
Visitiaotn will b 5-7 pm on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Roller Family Funeral Home with a graveside serivce at 1:45 pm in West TN Veterans Cemetery on Wednesday, March 5, 2014.
I have know "Ski" for many years primarily from our mutual enjoyment for bowling. We bowling against one another primarily at the Naval Base and Imperial Lanes and always had fun. He will be greatly missed both as a friend and as a fellow service member.
My condolences to the family and thousands of people that were blessed with knowing Peter D. His love of life and infectious joyful personality always makes me smile. I am lucky to have known him. Gods Speed Peter D.
I will miss you papa. Glad my children, your grand kids got to know you and love you like everyone else did.
Very sorry to hear about your loved one. God is the Creator of life. The Bible calls Jehovah God "the source of life." (Psalm 36:9: Acts 17:24, 25) The One who gave life to all living creatures is certainly capable of restoring life to someone who has died. What a wonderful hope.
