Barbara Ann Swan

of West Memphis, AR

October 16, 1940 - April 4, 2025

On Friday, April 4, 2025, Barbara Ann Swan, loving wife, aunt, daughter and sister passed away at the age of 84. She is preceded in death by her parents, Whitman and Ola Mae (Hemphill) Mitchell, her brothers Sammy Ray and Gary Lynn Mitchell, and her husband John Swan. Barbara was born on October 16, 1940 in Trumann, AR. She married John Swan the summer of 1987.

Barbara had the biggest heart and loved her family dearly. She loved to work in her yard. Oftentimes you would see her after work wearing her heels working in her yard until dark. Barbara worked for Bartons of West Memphis for over 40 years as their bookkeeper. She loved working and took pride in her job.

Barbara loved going to events with her family. She enjoyed taking her nieces to Holiday on Ice each year. Going to stay at Aunt Barb's house was always fun because she went out of her way to make it extra special. She would make fondue with the kids or make their favorite sweet treat. Every Easter she would host an Easter Egg hunt at her house where she would make the best coconut cake shaped like a bunny.

She loved helping at the Swan's open house every year, where you would find her arranging hors d'oeuvres perfectly and serving her famous punch.

Barbara enjoyed shopping on the weekends. She and John would spend the day in Memphis. Most of the time he would sit on the benches at the mall while she went from store to store. She always loved dressing up wearing her heels, and sweaters and finding the latest styles. She was known for her red nail polish and lipstick. Every week she made sure that she had her hair done and nails painted to look her best.

She is survived by her sister, Alice Osment, her step children Jonathan Swan (Gin) and Johnita Swan Elslander (Donald). She will be missed by her family who will honor her by making sure our dinner parties are supplied with the best hors d'oeuvres served on our finest serving pieces just like she always did.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 10th at the Roller Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis. A celebration of life will follow with Brother Bill Harness officiating.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Mitchell, Whitman Mitchell, Donnie Marrs, Joe Kincaid, Jan Morgan, Scott Osment, and Jonathan Swan.
